Eating really light to make up for an overindulgent weekend?

Hey,
So I pretty much slaughtered my healthy eating attempts this weekend... I'm not gonna list everything but let's just sum it up with: cinnamon rolls and pancakes. UGH. I feel so guilty! My boyfriend is also trying to lose weight. We both eat pretty clean on the weekdays but on the weekends when we see each other we tend to go overboard on eating out or snacking on sweet stuff
I feel like fasting the next 3 days to make up for it, lol, but I know that's not healthy either.
Any suggestions on how to "make up" for those extra weekend calories?
Maybe workout more than normal for a few days and eat super clean/low sugar?
Or would restricting myself moreso than on a normal weekday be counter-intuitive?

Are you over for the week or just the last couple days?? I went over my calories on Friday (husband's b-day, darn cake) but I'm still under by 300 for the week. Some people talk about cycling their calories and say it works for weight loss. I'm sure you'll be fine just run for an extra 15 mins tomorrow :happy:0

You can't really do much to "make up" for it. There's no way you ate enough calories to gain actual pounds from it, so any weight you do "gain" is probably just water retention. Don't fast - that's stupid - especially if you're working out. Just drink a lot of water to flush the extra sodium, stick to your normal clean eating and workout routine, and you'll be just fine.0

dont starve yourself! that will only make it worse! you cant really make up for it and dont feel guilty, we all make mistakes and this is a learning process. And once in a while something "bad" for us is totally ok just drink lots of water and work out!0

try searching intermittent fasting and also calorie cycling, esp if this weekend eating will be regular for you.
then make up your own mind what will work for you, with your doctors approval

What I've found to work for me is that after a binge day or whatever is to eat lighter the next day and get a solid workout in the next 2 days.0 -
hey: good news! My nutritionist was telling me that you should look at it as a calorie bank for the week, instead of for the day. This way, if you have something you're craving (tonight it was pumpkin pie for me), don't worry about it. You can skim 100 calories off everyday for the rest of your week and still meet your target without starving yourself. So, if your MFP goal is 1200/day, add up 7 days/week, and you get your week's total. Or, you could just work out extra hard this week =P either way, one weekend isn't going to kill you. You can bounce back from it.0

Your best bet would be to resume your current dietary plan and act as though this didn't happen. Do not try and compensate.0

If your overindulgent weekends are a habit then you need to look at things seriously.
And perhaps you and your boyfriend could commit to making your weekends nutritionally better cos you mention that he is also working to lose weight. Having a support person who understands what you are going through can make a huge difference so you could become great support persons for each other.
Good luck.0 -
Plan your hardest most intense workout for the days you are planning to eat more. Your body will need the nutrients.0

The way I see it is, if you have a crazy weekend... who cares? Sometimes you will go over your calories goals for the week/day, it happens. You are still going to continue this journey to a healthier lifestyle, you will still be able to maintain your weight or you will still be able to lose weight. You might not lose this week but that doesn't mean you won't lose next week or the next. Just because you aren't losing weight every week doesn't mean you are failing. So if you have a couple bad days, oh well, just move on and resume life as normal the next day. I wouldn't try and do anything drastic the next day to make up for your "mistakes". It's a journey, it's a lifestyle change. In life there are going to be days where you eat some cinnamon rolls. Enjoy it.0

I've done exactly the same it was our anniversairy I weighed this morning and I've gained 1.4 lbs I'm hopeful I'm gonna get it off let me know what works for you.0 -
try not to punish yourself. Theres nothing to feel "guilty" about. Its just eating.
If you want to restrict a little to keep under for a few days thats one thing, but fasting is a bit much.0 -

this is what I do. the day before and the day after a planned heavy meal. I don't stress or worry or beat myself up over it.0 -

When I have a really, really bad weekend/day/whatever, I either plan ahead and work out to earn the calories or I work out afterward to decrease the negative effect on my weight loss.
However, if I'm only a few hundred calories over my goal, I don't sweat it.0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone!
Don't worry, I know fasting is not a good option. I think I'll feel better if I just eat really clean today, drink a lot of water, and exercise a little bit more.
I think what bothers me more is NOT that I have a cheat meal/day, but that the weekends when my bf and I are together, we tend to fall out of our healthy eating habits too much. We shouldn't be so tempted to eat badly when we are together!
However, we're way better than we used to be, and last night after I posted this, he came in the room and was like, "Okay, we really have to figure out a way to eat healthy during the weekend!" and we talked it out. So luckily, he and I are making our journey to a healthy lifestyle together!
Also, I'll look into calorie cycling0
