Confusion needing to be clarified

I have not gained or lost any weight in the past month, With the Holidays coming up I told my husband that I will more than likely maintain my weight for the next 2 month's because of how busy we are going to be and because I love Holiday food. We talked about maintaining weight and we were ok with it. Well yesterday my husband told me I am starting to put weight back on. I measured and I didn't put on any more inches in my tummy. My husband wouldn't just say that to be mean. So What I am asking is, Can you gain weight and not gain pounds? I tried to google it but came up with nothing. Thanks in advance :D

the short answer is yes, body composition can change without weight gain or loss.

to "look" like you gained without gaining weight, you'd need to gain fat and water weight while losing muscle mass, that usually means you are starving yourself, but not always, you could just be overeating without doing any exercise activities also, but you'd have to be overeating quite a bit or over the long term and being pretty sedentary in your lifestyle, the former is more common if you're exercising and watching your calories.
  • I'm very concerned that your weight is a topic you discuss together and that you are looking for his approval for your way of eating. He might be concerned you are going to go out of control, and his comment may reflect that. Unless you've been sedentary for weeks...it's doubtful you've had a sudden change in body composition. I just think it's best not to discuss diet/weight loss with a spouse...it's so hard for them to be supportive, and so easy to take any comments the wrong way.

It is not my job to tell you what goals to have but I do want to chime in with this:

You can still follow a plan (calorie deficit) for the next two months, and allow yourself to eat freely on a couple of days (thanksgiving, xmas, xmas eve, new years) as examples.

This would be a way for you to find a compromise in that you can enjoy the holidays, but still trim up a bit over the course of 2 months.

Thanks for the fast response, I am still watching what I eat, I just switched from 1lb a week to Half a lb a week. And my exercising has almost completely come to a halt. I notice I am not really eating more but I do eat late some times and I know that can have a bad effect. My husband is very honest and is supportive of my weight loss now, At first he didn't like it but once he joined in it was much better. I just didn't realize I could still gain weight with out gaining pounds -_- I guess I better get back on the ball and start exercising again! Thanks everyone :D
