I am having a really bad week

On Friday morning our house flooded, for the second time in 4 years, due to the city council failing to unblock a drain I had called them out SEVEN times about in the last 3 months. The ground floor is wrecked, we have dehumidifiers in trying to dry it out, and have to have totally new flooring.

This morning my cat got run over. I found her dead but still warm outside the children's bedroom when I opened their curtains.

I have put my back out lifting furniture out of the flood water, and I am due in university in a couple of hours, and all I want to do is go back to bed and pretend the world isn't there.

Someone give me some motivation. I am out.

Oh such a horrible time you've been having! I am so sorry! Please remember that taking good care of YOU is the most important thing you can do for your family. Exercise helps with stress too, so don't neglect to workout. The messes will unfortunately still be there when you are thru. Take time for you.

Good luck, sending positive thoughts your way!

Wow, that is rough. I'm not sure I can provide too much motivation. However, if you go back to bed and pretend the world isn't there you will be sorely disappointed when you get back up. Those problems aren't going away. You will successfully overcome all these obstacles and be a stronger person for it.
  • =( sooo sorry to hear about all that is happening. i say you take a day for yourself and stay in bed. wont make anything better but it will clear your mind a little bit.

things will be ok. i say get a lawyer or public advocate to help you fight the city. remember life has its ups and downs. right now your down but just wait til it picks ups. wishing you the best.
  • It doesn't seem like it now but everything will work out eventually and you'll be back to your normal self.

I agree with Giraffe that taking care of yourself will in turn help your family because you'll feel better about yourself. Exercise does help with stress, I find sometimes after I've worked out that I'm so tired that I don't think about all the things stressing me out.

Keep plodding along with eating right and exercising because if you throw it all out the door now you'll feel worse because you will have left yourself down.

Hope things pick up for you!!

I am so so sorry about how terrible things have been for you!! I have to say I can nearly relate. This house main floor has flooded at least 4 times, ankle deep in the last year and we lost 2 very dear sweet animals within a 2 month time span over the summer. Our pony to colic and our dog to just old age we believe because we found her. Both were older, but still. It crushed us. It is STILL painful to recall. I know it seems impossible, but if you just keep pushing through this, because you know you have to, you will be ok. But, I do suggest as soon as you can, to take a good "as long as you can" break from everything and a breather. You know? You and the kids need a fun couple of days after all this. Just time for you to relax and enjoy. I will keep you in my prayers. :flowerforyou:

^^^ This. I had the same issues with the drain outside of my house, and it completely ruined my entire basement, including the drywall, carpet, and about $3000 worth of electronics that I had in the basement at the time. I had to have mold remediation done, plus they had to completely gut my entire basement in order to deal with it all, not to mention that I had to get an entire new drain put in from the sewer to my house. I ended up having to get a lawyer (I found one who didn't charge unless I won my case) and I actually didn't even end up having to go to court. My lawyer was able to just send a letter and that was enough to scare the city into action. Feel free to PM me if you need any advice or just want to vent. I've been there. It sucked.

    hi
all I can say is with my kids I usally tell them a saying from the novel "Pollyanna" "when everything seems really bad find just one reason to be glad. ". and you if you think for a few minutes just quietly , there usually is something it may be only a small thing but hey after a while one small thing a day makes a better week.

Fall back on the positive things.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time, I hope things get better for you soon.

It is a cliche, but if it weren't for the tough times you wouldn't be able to appreciate the good ones.

Thanks. We've been here before too, 3 1/2 years ago. That is the really annoying thing, that despite it having happened before, and despite my constant badgering of them, they STILL let it happen again. They haven't done a thing since the first flood, they haven't even unblocked the drain.

*HUGS!* I'm so sorry! Especially about your cat.

Huge amounts of personal stress, heartache and a sore back? Each one of those sound like valid reasons to take a personal or sick day, BUT you'll probably feel better being at work and getting your mind on other things. Being home and seeing the mess from the flooding, when you aren't up to doing anything about it, might not be a good idea.

I was fine about the flood, in all honesty. Cross, but fine, it's a hassle but it's not life threatening. It's my cat that has tipped me over the edge.

I know. My pony was the kind of pony I could put my 4 year old on and she was safe. She got colic and we only slept like 7 hours over an entire weekend because we were up with her to try to pull her out of this illness. Only to have to call in a vet that Sunday night to put her down. God, I was devastated, then we had to have a neighbor come down to bring his backhoe to dig a hole for her. THEN to beat all, about a month and a half later, our St. Bernard just died. She was in her bed and just didn't respond when we called her that morning. :-( It made the problems with our house seem like nothing. It was such a dark time. But really, we could not take a break from any of it, but it did get easier. If you NEED to sleep, and have the ability, then go for it, but really I think just pushing through it to try to get things done, will help boost your adrenaline and give you a sense of accomplishment, but be careful about your injured back. This too shall pass. I will be thinking of you often today and saying prayers of peace and healing for you and the kids.

I understand how you feel. Thank the Higher up that you & your family is safe. I'm sorry about your cat. Pets are so loyal & love us unconditionally. It's a true loss when they are taken from us. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

I was a wreck when my cat Blackie died from an unknown illness that the vet couldn't figure out. :frown:

    This helped a little:

That's terrible. I had to absolutely hound the city (I think I had them out 3 or 4 times in one month) and then I had to call 3 different plumbing companies, plus my insurance company, and then finally a lawyer. I had just bought my house and it happened to me about 1 month after moving in. Try to hang in there. Call again today. When they don't give you the satisfaction that you need and deserve, ask to speak with someone higher up. If it really is the City who is at fault, I'd suggest writing a letter to a city council member. Or maybe try contacting them via phone and ask for a meeting with them--it may take a few days/weeks before they respond or see you, but you pay taxes for a reason, and you deserve to have your say. Good luck!
