Hey all,
Just started to exercise again after being diagnosed with arthritis in my ankles a few years back. Was told to watch what exercises to do but I am now fed up sitting about and putting on weight so getting back into it.
Don’t have a goal in mind yet but trying to eat healthier and hammer the exercise which hopefully will help me lose weight and feel better about myself.
Trying to go to the gym at least 3 days a week where I spend roughly 2 hour each session (80 mins HIIT on the treadmill, 30 mins on X trainer and a few weights).
I would say my biggest problem would be the weekends where I do like to go out and enjoy myself and this does involve drinking beer / lager / cider.
I would really appreciate if anyone could share with me any hint, tips etc which would help me as I don’t currently know if what I am doing is correct.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to MFP, you will find this a great site with lots of help. Wow you are only 28 and you have arthritis in your ankles ! ! I totally understand how you are feeling as I have arthritis in my hip which is now bone on bone, I have been putting on more an more weight which of course causes more problems. I too am hoping that losing my weight will help and the lighter I become the more active I will become.
With your exercise you should be careful not to over do it, 2 hours at a time is an awful lot , the treadmill and cross trainer would put a lot of pressure on your ankles which would aggravate the arthritis I would of thought. The weights are good to build muscle but are there any other exercises you can do that isn't so hard on your ankles, maybe just do 30 mins on the treadmill and cross trainer. Do you have a swimming pool near you or at your gym as that would be very good and more gentle on your ankles.
As for the ale that is another story.. . . . . lol Maybe find a light ale and just have a couple of drinks as that will not only be better for your weight but also for your health in general. The other alternative is for you to vote yourself as the designated driver each week and and just drink water lol on maybe every other weekend.
Don't try to lose weight by under eating as that has the opposite effect, you are more likely to not lose any weight if you do that as I know myself how hard it is to lose weight then, my biggest problem is under eating all the time. Drink lots of water at least 8 glasses a day but more would be better. Lots of protein helps to build muscle which in turn burns fat, cut your sugar down and don't cut carbs out all together as you do need carbs for energy
Good luck with your weight lose journey and remember if you fall off the horse get right back on again

I have noticed when I input my daily foot intake it does say that I am under eating. The thing is during the week I always seem to be busy with work, gym etc that I don't seem to be hungry therefore don't feel as if I am starving myself.
My ankles do seem to be fine. I was adamant at the time of the diagnosis that it wasn't arthritis but as I am not a doctor went along with it. I am however very careful with what I am doing and if there is anytime in which I feel my feet getting sore, swelling I generally stop.
I have a pool in the gym I am attending and also another one next to my work so am intending mixing up my exercise with a swimming session which will obviously help my ankles.0
