What is everyone's take? I love to eat vegetables, but after a long day I sometimes resort to steamfresh. Any thoughts?

I like to have a couple in the freezer for those long days. Frozen veggies are usually pretty good for you and retain most of the nutrients (better than canned most of the time). I'd like to hear everyone else's thoughts.

I eat those or the Green Giant variety.

Since I am on a quest to eat better these fit the bill, but I just have to watch the sodium in each of them due to the sauces that some of them have.

Just look at the nutritional information on the back and let that be your guide.

I love em. They're great when I've planned out a meal but really didn't think about the veggies to go with it. I can throw them in at the last minute and they're good to go. I'm sure someone somewhere will say that they're all full of chemicals because of cooking them in the plastic bag, but then people say you shouldn't cook on an aluminum pan because it'll give you alzheimers etc. My thoughts are that if they help you get your veggies in they're a good thing.

I have them all the time! I usually pop a bag in the microwave for my lunch a lot of the time since I am running around like a nut and its quick for me...I prefer fresh vegetables of course, but I am not sure if there is much harm or difference nutritionally between fresh and frozen...That information would have to come from someone much more knowledgeable than I.

I say eat up, baby!! If they are veggies and you haven't doused them in butter, cheese, etc.- Rock on with your bad self!
Any way that you can eat more veggies, do it! I would just make sure they don't get overly cooked. Keep them crisp to retain some vitamins and such.

I love steamed veggies with lemon juice. Or, steamed veggies with Frank's Red Hot. Or, steamed veggies with mustard.
  • I love them, add some variety of meat and you have a gluten free dinner that takes about 20 minutes.

I eat them many times during the week. They are a lot better than canned. I just don't eat the ones that have the sauce added.

I love them! At this time of year in my small town, we don't have a ton of good fresh veggies and fruits, and they are so easy to make...have them several times per week!

I use them just about every night. It's just me and my two kids, and one bag is just the right size for the three of us. No dishes to clean up either! I avoid the ones with sauces because that's where the excess calories will be. I just add my own seasoning (none of us are veggie-lovers, but even the kids will eat them if I season them a bit) and we're ready to go.

i just discovered them last week. But i buy the aldi bag of broccoli. Ummm, it's done in four minutes and i add salt and pepper and a little butter. Delicious. I love that it's already cut and ready and easy. I don't get ones with sauce. I made a baked potato with the steamed brocoli on top then topped with a small amount of shredded sharp cheddar cheese then microwaved till melted. IT was fabulous and i wish i had more. Next time i will add a little protein like chicken or tuna.

I love the Birdseye variety (not big on Green Giant but everyone is different). I know that frozen is WAY better than canned (how did I eat that crap as a kid) and sometimes frozen can be better than fresh because it's usually flash frozen very shortly after being picked and the fresh stuff in the store does have to travel and it can be days before it gets to you.

Plus.....4 minutes in the microwave. How could that not be good!!!

As for sodium.....I don't buy stuff with sauces because it's higher calories and I want the kids to eat real food not sauces. The ones that I like are :

Super Sweet corn--0 sodium, 70 cals for 2/3 cup
Sweet Peas--0 sodium, 70 cals for 2/3 cup
Mixed veggies--20 sodium, 60 calories for 2/3 cup
Green Beans--0 sodium, 30 calories for 3/4 cup

I don't consider those sodiums to be anything really!!!

Love birdseye steamfresh, love green giant steamers. I'm a lazy chef. I can throw a veggie steamer in the microwave and prepare a grilled chicken breast or grilled salmon filet and have a quick, nutritious lunch or dinner. Gets my husband to eat his veggies, too. :-) And bonus, sometimes I can get a great deal with coupons. LOL
