I'm very new to this, so I really have no idea how this site works. But anyway... hi! I have dieted on and off for years and have zero support in this. Not that anyone's against me losing, but people I'm close to think that I just need to stop eating. My doctor actually said that. I'm also somewhat new to GA and have decided to change my small group of friends. Social activities were all about food and drink, and let me tell you, we weren't eating celery and drinking water! So I'm looking for a support group. I like what I've read so far! Cheers to all who have lost, and cheers to the rest of us who are trying!!

You've definitely come to the right place! MFP is for people who want to lose weight the right way so that we can all live life at a healthy weight without suffering. Anyone who tells you to stop eating (sorry, what doctor says that?) is way out of order - you NEED to eat, you just need to eat less and exercise more. Enjoy learning about the site and I'm sure you'll find it nice and easy x

Welcome. You are in the right place, MFP, to learn how to eat right, have support, and know that you can be successful. That's why we're all here. Good luck on your journey.

    welcome!
This is a very friendly place and has been a great help so far. The ethos here seems about learning to eat better - rather than learning not to eat. I like the way that it is not all about food AND no-one seems to be trying to make money out of your weight.
    Good luck!

Hello Everyone, I lost 20 pounds several years ago with the help of a blog on xanga and the support of many xanga friends. I'm hoping to find the same support with myfitnesspal since it is on my phone :)

Please friend me so I can use my phone to message you and we can help motivate each other.

Speaking of that 20 pounds I lost, I gained it back plus 45 more over the last couple of years. I just stopped caring and ate whatever I wanted. Now that I can barely fit into my size 18 pants I've had enough. My husband doesn't treat me as well as he used to and I really think it's because of my weight. He doesn't understand why I just don't stop eating anything but vegetables until I look good again. But I'm not doing this for him, I'm doing this for me and I just hope that going through this journey helps improve our marriage as a positive side effect.

I'm not doing a diet plan, just logging everything I eat and trying to eat better and stay within my calorie target range. Exercise will be pretty limited to walking or playing Dance Dance Revolution. Maybe an exercise video or two, but I don't have a gym membership and I don't want one. I do have some hand weights for strength training. Contrary to prior health and fitness makeovers I've attempted I'm not doing an elaborate plan for specific exercises and strength training. That just sets me up to be discouraged when I don't follow the plan and then I give up. I just want to do something, anything, just do some physical activity and be happy with that accomplishment. It's better than nothing and it's a lot easier to meet that goal.

So if you're like me and looking for motivational support friends please add me!

I get it, Tawny. I started out losing 20 lbs, then I gained 40, and so on. Now I need to lose 200 lbs.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes! I'm feeling better already!!

MFP is such a strong and positive support group! I think you'll find what you need here! Surround yourself with lots of "fitness pals" and you'll have a great network of support!
