Anyone have a personal trainer?

Hi everyone,
I am frankly so tired of this yoyo-ing in my diet. At 27 years of age, I am still not able to curb my emotional eating (binging when stressed). I have gone to an eating disorders group - 1 session - tried counselling - 3 sessions - looked through so many diets that just don't work!!! But I do love to exercise... I absolutely love it and the training never stops. This is probably why I am not huge by now, but honestly, I scare myself with how much I can eat at once when I am in a binge. So... I am thinking of getting a personal trainer and signing up for 10 sessions. If I can have someone support me for a few weeks and see the weight come off, I think I will no longer have that frustration with my weight, which is what often leads me to eat again. Does any of this make sense?

Does anyone have a personal trainer out there? Does it work?

Feedback please!

  • Yes, I worked with a trainer for about 3 months last year, and just started up again. There was a lot of value in using him, I became very toned and strong and never missed a workout because of the financial commitment. I worked out 5 days a week, 3 cardio and 2 strength training and tracked my calories on this site.

That being said, I did not lose any weight, but I did lose inches. If you are looking for a change on the scale primarily, you may not find what you are looking for. That was my experience at least. I am starting again because after my sessions stopped, I dropped out of exercising, not smart! and gained 5 lbs.

Hope this helps, good luck with your journey.

First, if you are going to hire one you need to do your research. One of the "trainers" from my gym lives across the street from me and he is not in shape at all. I have seen PT's a the gym yawning and not even paying attention to their clients. NOT that all gym pt's are like that but do your research.

Ask for references before you sign with anyone.

Also, you might see if there is group training, it is less costly or you might find someone that is willing to be a workout buddy. People that rely on each other to go to the gym usually go more often and get better results than those that go it alone.

Good luck! :flowerforyou: let us know if you do how it goes

A personal trainer is not going to solve your real issue here. You said yourself that the problem is binge eating, not a lack of motivation to exercise. Personal trainer or not, you still have to go home to your fridge and the emotional issues that drive you to eat in a manner that is out of control.

I would suggest you go back to your counselor or the eating disorders support group rather than waste your money on something you apparently do not need. The total of four sessions you spent is not enough to have helped you. The only way you will stop the binge eating cycle is to confront your issues head on and deal with them.

I agree, maybe a different group or a different counselor, but you need to hit those issues before you can ever be successful in weight loss. I used to make jokes about my weight, I called myself an anorexxxic because when I looked in the mirror I saw a skinny person... I had some issues to work thru. The thing I haven't worked thru is bored eating... still working on that one!
