What do you guys think about the Paleo Diet in general? I just started reading the book and a lot of it seems to make sense. Any comments, questions, concerns?

have'nt heard of that before explain it0

It excludes certain types of food based on a false premise, and then claims to have positive effects on health and body composition, not because of calorie balance and macro intake, but because you excluded the "evil" foods.0
-
'm not familiar with it, but you may want to search the boards about it. It's been mentioned quite a bit here.0

seems to make sense. It comes down to eating real food with the least amount of processing. I am not sure I can roll like "Grok", but maybe I can make a difference with an almost caveman diet.. good luck0

It helped me get off of insulin and reverse my diabetes. We have a support group here:

I read one of the Paleo books and tried the diet for a week. I gained 6 lbs. Needless to say, I immediately decided it wasn't for me since I am trying to lose weight!0

I'm pro-paleo and I think it does a body good.0

I think it's great for people who may have had underlying digestive issues in the first place (that said gluten intolerance is only an issue for a very small portion of the general population), there are a lot of studies that back up lowering carbohydrate consumption having lots of health benefits. There are also great recipes that are grain free, lower carb, etc for people who want to switch up macros at meals. Overall, it's a great way to get processed foods out of your diet and eat in whole foods form more often, but being too strict with it might make you a sad panda when you just want a piece of damn old fashioned cake on your birthday.0

It's a pile of crap.
We haven't been hunter gatherers for a LONG time - our bodies need other nutrients now and at that time we didn't eat these other things because they weren't available and we had no idea how good they would be for us.0 -
I read about it today. Fruit, veggies, lean meat and avoid processed carbohydrates including grains. I am not comfortable with the whole cave man reference and you really need to get adequate B vitamins and fiber although you can do it without grains its just harder. As a nutritionist I like that he his published and peer reviewed but I can't say if the research is sound. It was interesting to read. If you eat fruits and veggies plus lean meats you will lose weight and get your blood sugar stableized I just dont think it is some "miracle" plan that will change your life. Eat for health, reasonable portions, a variety of textures and colors, excersise!!0

I'm on board! I find for me that removing grains and processed food has helped me the most. I still eat dairy - but not as much as I used to. I don't think you can go wrong eating whole, unprocessed foods.0

It has been working for me quite well -- cutting out the processed food and grains has made a big difference for me.
I recommend doing a lot of your own research since there seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions on it.0 -

This. Meat + veggies, everything else is just unnecessary fluff!0 -

There are countless diets out there, either current, old, new, innovative, trends, fads, etc. Key to successful weight/fat loss, is understanding CALORIES. Which entails maintenance calories, calorie deficit, macro-nutrients, calorie values, etc. By knowing the most basic information is a huge impact on a person's weight gain, weight loss, or fat loss goals. I create my own diet and utilize what works, or modifying the simple diets that have been around for ages.0
