CHA LEAN Started 4-11!

I started today, and while the movements in the routine are slow I still worked up quite a sweat! I went out and bought a Polar HRM before starting. I had bought a cheaper one, but I wanted one with a chest strap. I also bought a set of Reebok dumbbells that are similar to the selectechs that are on the videos, and they are REALLY convenient! I didn't have weights, and these were cheaper than buying individual sets. Just slide to the weight you want and pick them up! EASY.
I burned a total of 267 calories. Is this good? I've never used a HRM before, but I want to make sure I'm in the right "zone" to burn fat.
I DO like the workout enough to keep going even though it's slower movements. I'm thinking of doing it along with the Couch to 5k program. I downloaded the podcast to my mp3. Would this be a good idea? How much is too much?
Thanks ladies for your great advice and wonderful support!! :flowerforyou:
alf1163- I am in Houston, which is probably why I received mine faster. Hopefully you'll get it soon!!

honestly , i think doing both is fine, as long as you are keeping track of the calories burned , and replacing some ( if not all of them, its a big debate here) then you should be fine, keep you net calories up over your calorie goal for the day ( 1200. 1400. whichever you chose) you should be fine.
I should add one seems to be strength training and one cardio, and its never bad to add cardio!0 -
Adnama: I don't see why you can't do Chalean and run. When my DVDs get here I will be doing both Chalean and the Couch to 5K/with my son. I am also training for a 10 mile event so I'll be running around 25-30 miles a week. I know that on the beachbody forums there is a group of marathon runners that are using this program so it must work well together.
Glad you enjoyed your first workout. 267 calories sounds about right. I was burning around that much doing the Power 90 Sculpt Circuit that takes 40 minutes.0 -
As I said on a different thread, I burn about 175 when I do my CE and I also use a HRM. I have to work really hard to burn calories for some reason. That number is probably correct for you.
I love the CE workouts and feel stronger. I am on week two of push. The pounds aren't exactly falling off, but I'm committed to the 90 days.0 -
:frown: Are you at least losing inches? I've had one other person say they did the program and lost around 8lbs.. i need to lose 20. However, if I lose inches and can look decent in my swim suits, I'll be okay. Maybe. I want to hea r from the people that have lost the weight claimed on tv and in the manual! THEN I'll be a little less skeptical, and feel my money was well spent.0

I plan on doing the exact same thing! ChaLean and Couch to 5K starting tomorrow
I hope its okay to do them together!? I just like the idea of getting outside at least three days a week to exercise....if its raining I'll do the ChaLean cardio dvds though....I don't think I would make it through only doing the dvds...i need variety or I get bored and quit....
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one doing this combo
Summer 2009 WILL Be Different!0 -
I really want to do the couch to 5k, but I was advised by a Beachbody coach not to do both. I don't want to take any chances on messing up my results, so I may wait on the couch to 5k. If I don't see substantial results, I'll definitely be upset! I have bought everything I need from weights to a new pantry of food to ensure I'm doing this correctly. I'll keep you posted. Please keep me posted on your results doing both programs!!

adnama,
After 30 days, I had lost
1 1/4" chest
1/2" upper arm
0" waist
1" hips
1" thigh
and about 3.5 lbs.
body fat about the same
My abdomen is flatter, but my butt has gained muscle. So...the measurement around my hips only 1" smaller, but my shape is different. Also, I lost in my natural waistline, but not along the belly button line where Chalene has you measure.
Personally, I have just decided to not rely too much on the scale or tape measure. Also, we are only tracking body fat on that one spot on our body on the waist and that is the absolute last place I will lose it. These are the reasons I've committed to the full 90 days before I make judgement on this program. I am starting to get back in my smaller pants (sorta) so something is working.
Also, I am not on the super lean/clean diet. With my Crohn's, I don't mess with my diet too much. I have to keep a few carbs to keep my belly happy so I expect things to go slower for me than someone who is doing the clean eating. I am counting my calories on here, though.
My Beachbody Coach said some who are seeing slower results add another day of cardio to CE and only take one rest day instead of two and that seems to make a positive difference. Don't get discouraged before you get into it--basically, if you use a HRM, you'll know what you're burning and how much you can eat0 -

They also say that you will lose most of the weight during the last phase, so I guess you wouldn't really know until then anyways. I am definitely going to stick with the program. . Congratulations on your progress!!0
