Do I have to get a heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burned at the gym? I was on the machines doing weight/resistance for 45 minutes today, and when I entered it in to my exercise diary on MFP, NADA, no calories burned!!

If you entered it under the Strength training section of the exercise diary, it won't show calories. That's more of a section just to keep track of sets/reps/weight lifted.
However, if you search "Strength training" under the cardio section of the diary, it will show up with a calorie estimate.0 -
the best way to track calories burned is the HRM, your HR could be pretty high for a pretty long time, and 45 minutes is a long time to miss out on the opportunity to know how many calories you burned. Its a good investment in my opinion.0

I have a Polar HRM and I love it .. I did 38 minutes of strength (Power 90 Sculpt) and I burned 461 calories
I highly recommend buying one.0 -
