Will i lose my weight if i exercise daily and keep my calories around 1200 but i regularly don't eat diet food?
for example i ate today potatoes, pancakes, chocolate etc but kept my calories with exercise under 1200?
I understand that i should eat better food - more vegetables, nice meat etc but many times that is not possible...will this kind of diet pun in jeopardy my losing weight?

Calories in need to be less than calories out.0

It will not affect your weight loss, but it might affect your health.0

I would assume you will lose weight but you won't gain any muscle mass because you aren't eating any lean proteins. Also, if you don't have enough fiber in your diet you could become constipated. I wouldn't make this a habit. Just my opinion.0

It affects your BF%, too, if you care about that.0

Weightloss is all about the calories. Everything else is personal choice. Some things are worth looking into, though, and may cause you to decide to choose different types of foods than you already eat. But that is your choice.0

You will lose but I don't know how nutritious it is and you won't get a lot for you calories. But good luck with that.0

Technically all you need is a calorie deficit to lose weight....however health should be a priority. 1200 calories already seem WAY too low. Then eating food that burn quickly since they are high sugar can't be healthy. I would be careful...you can lose weight but be lethargic, slow, no muscle, etc and thats no good!0

Ha! YES! I've lost 26lbs doing that... well I eat no more than 1500 and I work out 3 days a week. The only "diet" stuff I eat is Splenda... I even have 1% milk, candy, bread, pasta, veggie dogs (I'm a pescatarian) popsicles, cake, sweets, ice cream. It's do able.0

Honestly, just personally speaking I still lose weight as long as I stay within my cal goal for the day.
Ive found that when I try to change my eating habits drastically, I dont stick to it. Making small changes here and there I can handle and is also more reasonable for me, cause I want to be able to do something I can stick to. If I lose weight by cutting out everything I like to eat, then realisitically speaking, Id have to keep eating that way...and I cant imagine going the rest of my life without eating a certain food cause its bad for me.
So my overall goal is balance, I do eat a lot of healthy foods, but I eat some crappy foods too. Ill never be a beacon of perfect health with a totally clean diet and no bad food ever in my body, but Im okay with that, cause Im all about balance and being realistic about what I will eat.0 -
You will lose the weight, but when you are finished with MFP and stop counting calories, you will most likely gain all of the weight back. You are not changing the habits that made you gain that weight in the first place, so to lose the weight and keep it off without changing your eating habits and finding an obtainable exercise routine, means that you will be counting those calories and working out to make up for overages for the rest of your life.0

You should still lose weight, but I would suggest working on adding in more good vegetables, and lean meat.
I am a "sweets" person, in the very beginning I cut out all form of sweets, but I knew that if I wanted to stick with my changes I had to work stuff in. So I am a fan of 100 calorie desserts. I still get something yummy everyday but it doesn't blow my calories. It also allows me to have plenty of calories for good for me foods.0 -
It doesn't have to be diet "food" per say! But you can be healthy and treat yourself once in a while? Remember that you are trying to change your overall health not just the scale!0

1200 cals is not enough when working out. 1200 is the minimum for a sedentary person, when you exercise you need more fuel.
As an example your day to day requirements are like a tank of gas. if you use a tank of gas/week going to and from work, if you go on any extra trips or errands you will need to add more gas in order to have enough gas to get to work. So if you need 1200 for day to day stuff (you will lose weight with 1200 cals and no exercise), then when you do extra (workout) you need to put more calories in your body.0 -
Depends on the person and their insulin resistance. Personally if I don't eat real foods I at best maintain my weight and feel like crap.
When you say, "but many times that is not possible" is this because of time/money constraints? Because it takes me less time to make a spianch and sausage omelet than it does to make pancakes0 -
Not eating healthy foods will impare your ability to recover optimally from exercise and you probably won't feel optimally, but weight loss is about calories in, minus calories out. There was a guy who went on the 'twinkie' diet and only tracked calories, but ate about 1600cals/day of junk food plus a protein shake with a small amount of veggies and he lost weight. It's not advised.
One way to avoid the situations where you just don't have any options is to plan ahead. On a Sunday chopp up a few bags of veggies and have them ready for you to take daily with you along with some snacks. Also suggest making a few meals on a Sunday or day that works for you and then you have easy grab and go meals that are healthy. It takes some time to get into the pattern, but planning ahead will help avoid situations where you have less optimal options.0 -
Also, I wanted to add, dont think of healthy food as diet food. Unless you really specifically mean foods labaled as diet food, which is something I stay away from anyway cause I avoid processed foods as much as possible.
Definitely a good idea to add healthy choices to your diet and make changes, but its not like you must give up certain foods to be able to lose weight.0 -
but when you are finished with MFP and stop counting calories0

i really try to eat every day fibers and meat but sometimes that is not possible for justified reasons
i was just afraid that i will do everything and those days of bad diet will affect my weight loss.0 -
If you're willing to work it off, you can eat whatever....it won't be that healthy, but I'd think you'd lose weight.0

In my experience....it will not prevent you from losing the pounds but will impact how quickly you lose the inches. The leaner the foods you put in.....the quicker you will attain a lean appearance. Good lean proteins....lots of fiber.....and fresh veggies have worked well for me. I do however still get sweet treats. I just try to make sure that they have some redeeming value in them...usually that's fiber. Same with the starches.....switch to whole grains to bump up the nutrients. As far as the fats go.... moderation is my rule of thumb. Bottom line is.... this isn't a "one size fits all". You have to find what works for you. Good luck on your journey.
Oh...and by the way.... I also changed my eating habits in stages..... First, I just gave up soda.... next I switched to whole grains.... next white meat.... so on and so forth. Try baby steps so you don't get burned out.0 -
I tend to eat what I want. But I try to eat healthy when I can, salads, veggies, grilled chicken, oatmeal etc but if my boyfriend ordered a pizza tonight I'd still have a couple slices. During the week I stay within my calorie goal and exercise at least 5 days a week. I lost weight but very slowly. I know if I took out all the bad things I would lose faster.0

What is diet food?0

OK let me get this right? You want to wave a magic wand and when it goes wrong who will you blame? Everyone but yourself? If you have time to eat junk you have time to eat sensibly. Your choice!0
