Coming to terms with FAIL.

My trainer lives by the mentality that weight training is all you need to burn fat. That certainly works for him but I'm just not at a level in my lifting ability to wear I can burn sufficient amounts of fat to make any significant difference in my BF%. A lot of people can do it and do it well, but it doesn't work for my body at this point in my training. After trying to hard to do it, I've realized that it's just not something I'm capable of which makes me feel like a huge FAIL and frustrates me. So I've decided to lean out first and remain in calorie deficit, get down to my goal BF% and then bulk. Since I'm 6'0" tall, weight tends to slide off quite easily when I make it my main focus, so it shouldn't take me more than a 1 1/2 months to get to where I want to be.

My plan of action is to comine the Jillian Michaels "Ripped in 30" with her "6 Weeks to 6 Pack" DVDs and supplement it with extra cardio. Since both of her programs only take 4-6 weeks to complete, I think it would be the perfect way to maintain the muscle I've already gained while working to reach my BF% goal. Like I said, I am 6'0" tall and I can lose weight and shape up without problems, so I'm very confident that this will work. The only thing I struggle with is bulking, but I have my trainer for that and I'll deal with that when it comes closer to competition time. I'll make updates about my progress at the end of each phase if anyone is interested or has been considering using her program. I really like her mentality and aggressive attitude toward fitness (mainly because I'm just like her in that aspect).

Anyway, has anyone ever done either of these DVDs with success and significant results? And did you supplement the program with additional routines or no? I'm curious to hear some opinions about it. A lot of the bad reviews I've read online have nothing to do with her program and more to do with people just not being able to handle it. Most people who didn't like it gave reasons like "it was too hard" or "I couldn't keep up." To me, that's not a valid reason to give a program a bad review. It's just a sign that you are either terribly out of shape or you picked a program that was too advanced for your current ability. Does anyone have any actual reviews of the program itself???

I've done Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, twice, and have had some good results! The workouts are definitely challenging but totally worth it in the end!

I did do quite a bit of cycling in the first month but now i don't since the weather has shifted. I walk when the weather is nice but other than that I just stick the dvd's.

I just started JM's Ripped in 30 yesterday and so far i'm loving it!

Lots of people have had great success on here with Jillian Michael's work outs :)

I did the 30 Day Shred in the summer and supplemented it with a 'Boot Camp' class every single day. I definitely noticed more muscle definition and increased strength. Right now I am doing the Ripped in 30 DvD (starting week 2), and I actually prefer it. A bit more variety. I personally think these DvDs are a great addition to your regular routine, and its a bonus that they take up such a short amount of time (Half an hour)
  • foremant86: You look great girl! Good job with sticking with the routine even though it was challenging. A lot of the reviews I read were about how people quit right after starting because it was too difficult. Keep working hard! Your results are definitely noticeable.

myurk: I was originally going to get the 30 Day Shred but heard the Ripped in 30 was more challenging so I bought it. I never thought of doing a Boot Camp. That's a really good idea. One of the main reasons I bought her program was because of the short length of time it took to do them. I knew I wouldn't have a problem combining it with my own routine if I needed to.

Ripped in 30 is definitely more challenging and I hear week 3 and 4 are tough. My fitness level has improved a lot this year, so its definitely doable.

Boot Camp (Group Fitness) is what really got me motivated towards overall fitness. I'm not grossly overweight, so even though I wanted to drop a few, I really wanted to get fit again and this definitely worked. I did an early morning one, and it was really like personal training in a group setting. Everyone can go at their own pace, but the instructor will push you regardless. In all honesty though, the classes were just too expensive. Boot camp was basically like doing the ripped in 30 DvD for an hour.

I think you are on the right track!

I have the 30 day shred by JM ... I've done it once. Didn't keep up with it.
But i do have the Biggest Loser - Power Sculpt, Cardio Max and Yoga.
I highly recommend these. I did these alternating a couple years back and saw significant changes.
Lunges seem to be where its at! :) Best of luck!
