Psychiatric Meds when losing weight?

Hey everyone,
My Psychiatrist wants to try me on Tegretol for my mood problems, how will this affect my weight loss? Will it make me gain? Has anyone had an experience with this med that they want to share? In the past I've been on anti-depressants which were weight neutral, other anti-convulsants which didn't seem to impact me weight-wise, and also anti-psychotics (But I found that my anti-psychotic meds made me gain weight like absolute CRAZY) ...Help?

    Ask him! (and Google).

My two cents is that I'd think helping psychiatric problems is far more important than losing weight. Sort out the moods and the weight can follow, but I'm not an expert. I'm sure your psych can easily tell you about the weight loss implications of the medication she/he's suggesting.

    Good luck on your journey!

Yeah and weight loss can have HUGE psychological effects on a person... in addition your doctor may want to redose if you lose/gain a lot of weight.
