I got a new laptop which is great but means my songs are all on my old computer! I have an ipod touch, does anyone know how to transfer the songs off my ipod and onto my new computer?

You have to get a program for it. It's like $20... google it.

***Or you can turn on the sharing function in iTunes if all your songs are in there and copy them all to your new computer

Copy your ITunes Library from your old computer onto a flash drive then copy that into your new computer library:smile:

Yep. Assuming you still have the old computer, that is.
  • I need to do this too, but my old computer died in a flood! Lol

You can only do this if you have all the original files in a separate folder on your old computer. You can't copy from iTunes directly.

That's why it says "from your old computer".

Your itunes account can be on up to 3 computers I believe. This happened when I got my new laptop. I BELIEVE I just set up itunes on the new laptop and synced it with my ipod (at the time...now I use the iPhone) which worked since it was the same account and then all my music was magically there! They were both apple products and this was like 3 years ago so I may not remember clearly!

There are freeware apps you can get from cnet.com for an ipod to pc transfer. Most dont support video though.

IF the old PC is still functioning get a USB thumb drive and transfer the actual songs to the new one.

If your new computer is a Mac you can use senuti (iTunes spelled backwards). http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

If it was a situation like I had a few years back, all my files got deleted from my computer, so I had to get the songs off my iPod. Only reason why I mention the files need to still be on the old computer...

Senuti software helps you to do that.

Yes, my old latop is working...slow but still works. Also, I have a PC not a Mac.
  • how much music do you have .. Alot of music collectors (myself included) have MUCH more music than will fit on thumb drive in one trip..

Yes this will only work if the files are on the old computer. I thought that was a little too obvious to be pointed out, personally. I guess some people need everything spelled out.

Well you could also network the computers.
  • what operating system is on the "old" computer (windows xp , windows vista , windows 7 etc) this will dictate where the typical location of your music will be

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions!
  • I managed it myself in the end - plugged in my iPod and went through 'my computer' as if it were a hard drive, just hunted down the music files within the 'ipod control' files and did a drag & drop into iTunes. No idea why I've never been able to do it before!
