Lifting Gloves

Hiya MFP!

Does anyone use any gloves when they're lifting heavy (free weights - mostly long bars) and doing chin-ups/pull-ups? My hands had gotten pretty used to the kettlebells, and I was keeping the callouses and blisters off. Now with the new program I'm working through that is about 80% olympic-style lifts, my hands are an absolute wreck and I lose grip. I'm hoping for some tried and true recommendations since it seems that there are a ton of options. Maybe I don't really need gloves, so if you have alternate solutions I'm game for that, too. Chalk = doesn't do much.

Thanks a bunch!

Go for gloves if you want, no shame in wearing them! They'll protect your hands and give you better grip. I have just a cheapo $12 pair. I need gloves for anything because my hands are so sweaty I can't grip anything :p I chose these because they were the cheapest and they've haven't done me wrong. http://www.****ssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3211958&jsessionid=rXjqT5SLgyr3qZnyGzHHQgljxn2Lv8qVj1kTQTLZzyGwHbjhMvtG!828819411&ab=TopNav_Exercise_WeightTraining_GlovesWraps&cp=4413986.4417718

When I lifted, I used gloves. They do help with grip and with keeping your palms relatively in one piece. I knew other people who never did use them, so it's more of a personal choice.

I do...although I am not lifting as heavy as I used to I broke my wrist last winter and never got it set. So know any lifting hurts so I pulled out the gloves with the wrist supports and all is good. You are going to get people on both sides, I say try them and see what you think. My theory is if it eliminates one more potential excuse not to work out then do it.
  • Bahaha! Ok... that little censor was pretty funny!

Thanks so much for the recommendations. It's true that it's not really going to hurt to give it a try. If I hate it or it doesn't work, I'll just fight through it and try something else.

I'll never quit lifting, I've just apparently gotten "softer" with age. :)

amazon has a generous return policy. i think you would need the gloves at the gym. since i have some weights at home, i cut and use rubber tubing on my bars.
