I’m a diabetic. I was just diagnosed a month ago. I really NEED to watch my weight and diet so I don’t have to start the injections. Right now I am taking pills. Being in a state of denial hasn’t helped! But I need help. I’ve tried diets before and they didn’t work. I realize the importance of watching my weight NOW and hope with the support of this program…it can work.

Do you watch Biggest Loser? One of the young guys on there this season was told he was diabetic at the beginning (he had no idea) and after 8 weeks, its gone! I guess you CAN rid yourself of this disease by eating right, exercising and losing the excess weight.

    Best of luck to you!

You definitely came to the right place! MFP is all about support and you will find great people on here who will encourage you every step on your journey. I know people who have reversed their diabetes by turning a new leaf and living a healthier lifestyle. It can be done! Good luck to you on your journey! :flowerforyou:

    dlife.com has great recipes.
  • It is TOTALLY up to you! I was in the same boat as you last December. I made a lifestyle change. I started eating healthier and exercising. I made small steps and made a HUGE difference. I did NOT go on a diet. I just started making healthier choices, eating proper portions, and using my treadmill. I started on the danged treadmill at the lowest speed, no incline and for only a few minutes and gradually worked up.

I lost 25 lbs. in 90 days. I lost a total of 36 lbs. in 180 days. I am now maintaining that weight. I also got my blood sugar back in the normal range, lowered my cholesterol and my blood pressure.

    Good luck!

Wow...so sorry to hear, BUT you've come to the right place. There are plenty of people will encourage you and help you figure out how to eat better and offer suggestions on workouts. Remember, every little bit helps, so don't overwhelm yourself with doing a complete 180 with your lifestyle...take small steps to a healthier lifestyle.

    Blessings to you.

You definitely can reverse it and control it with weight loss, diet and exercise.

For me, the type of diet was key so I changed my default mfp settings to 40% protein, 30% carb, 30% fat.
Lower carbs -- but not drastic and learning which carbs are good carbs is key.
High protein, lean meats, greek yogurt, veggies..
Good carbs like quinoa, whole grains, farro, beans, nuts

OMG I was going to say this same thing...The Dr. did say that if he continued his old habits it will come back!! You have to decide within yourself that you are making a LIFESTYLE CHANGE FOREVER not a diet! Good Luck and don't give up!

Sorry to hear; you may need to see a nutritionist to get more information on how to eat; and continue to use this site as well to help you stay on track. Good luck.

Don't think of it as a Diet that you go off of once you lose weight! Think of making small changes and choose healthier things to eat-- pick a sport or exercise that you like! Slowly but steady!

Sorry to hear that but I promise it isn't the end of the world, i went through the same thing last November, a year ago, since then I started exercising again and watching what I eat (no strict dieting). My A1C last check up was a 5.6, you can beat this!

I am sorry to hear your news. But, you are at the right place. I was diabetic, I am not anymore. I know how scary and upsetting hearing that news it.

I was able to reverse it by diet and excersice. Since you are on pills, when you have a plan, make sure your Dr is monitoring you, you do not want to take too many meds. THis is the book I read and saved me. It teaches about what diabetes is, and your body's reactions. It is a plant based diet, but they do tell you how to integrate meat if you must. There is a also a cookbook sold

The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle: Lifestyle Center of America's Complete Program for Overcoming Diabetes, Restoring Health, and Rebuilding Natural Vitality [Paperback]

It is a plant based diet, but they do tell you how to integrate meat if you must. There is a also a cookbook that is my main cookbook. Even if you don't agree with the diet, the book itself is very informational and gave me the knowledge and the power to take control of my healt. The Dr's who run the LIfestyle Center of America have specialized in curing Diabetes for over 20 years. There is a cure for Type 2 Diabetes. I am proof.

The Reality: Once diagnosed as having diabetes, the person is ALWAYS considered to have the disease. Even when the person has lost the excess fat pounds, the disease is still present but the person is referred to as "diet controlled".

high (abnormal) glucose readings risks: major vision problems, high blood pressure, loss of feet/legs, loss of kidneys (these are the worst case scenario risks)

You would be wise to work very closely with a DIABETES NURSE (Registered Nurse certified) EDUCATOR and take the diabetes education classes. Learn those lessons well. They will save your life.

That pill you take: does not rid you of the disease. What it does is: induce your pancreas to produce enough insulin to meet your body's needs.

Take excellent care of your FEET. Dry very well between your toes and inspect every part of your feet every single day for the rest of your life.

If you smoke, you must stop...it increases the risks of other diseases due to diabetes.

You have already taken the first step of becoming healthier by starting on this program. This MFP program has SAVED MY LIFE. In another 7 days, I will have been on the program one full year. Last year at this same time, I was in a FULL BLOWN DIABETES condition. There is no turning back. Stay with your program: one day at a time, one meal at a time. I'm in this for the long haul~~~the rest of my entire life. GL. :)

Good point, and I should have added that part too. It does need to be a lifestyle change and not a temporary fix!

You can definitely do this! My husband was just diagnosed last week, and I've started watching my sugar consumption using my food diary. I know that if you can log every day, you'll be able to tell right away where your problem sugar points are. It'll take a little while, but you'll be able to refine your taste buds to not crave so much of it.
