Hi all!
so i've been trying to lose weight and so far have been doing okay having lost 15lbs (in 4 months) through dieting and eating better etc, but its just coming off so slowly so recently i've decided to try my hand at actually getting off my *kitten* and exercising :)
after two weeks of using the elliptical everyday i haven't lost weight and it is probably because i only burn around 250-300 on it, but i just do not have the endurance to go further!!
i have an elliptical at home so that's all i really do exercise wise. i also make sure stick to my 1200 calories and eat back half of my exercise calorioes
so yeah, if any could help i would appreciate it so much!! i still have 30lbs to lose before i reach my goal weight so anything to speed up the process a bit would be great! does endurance come with time?

thanks! :)

As you only have 30lbs to go i think you need to eat more

Are you eating enough? Are you eating your exersise calories?

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10589-for-those-confused-or-questioning-eating-your-exercise-calo

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/61706-guide-to-calorie-deficit

Go to the tools section and figure out your BMI:

Generally someone with a BMI over 32 can do a 1000 calorie a day (2 lbs a week) deficit
With a BMI of 30 to 32 a deficit of 750 calories is generally correct (about 1.5 lbs a week)
With a BMI of 28 to 30 a deficit of 500 calories is about right (about 1 lb a week)
With a BMI of 26 to 28 a deficit of about 300 calories is perfect (about 1/2 lb a week)
and below 26... well this is where we get fuzzy. See now you're no longer talking about being overweight, so while it's still ok to have a small deficit, you really should shift your focus more towards muscle building, and reducing fat. This means it is EXTRA important to eat your exercise calories as your body needs to KNOW it's ok to burn fat stores, and the only way it will know is if you keep giving it the calories it needs to not enter the famine response (starvation mode).

This is just a part of it! please read the link above
  • Maybe add walking to that or turn on the radio and dance. I've been told by my Dr. just MOVE..lol

You may be losing inches with the exercise, the pounds will come off, just keep at it.

With so few calories at such a young age your body might be going into starvation mode which means it doesn't burn calories and stores them up for safety reasons. If you only have 30 lbs left you must be fairly thin as it is....I would honestly eat more and work out more....making sure to eat all you work out calories back. Your body has hit a wall...

    Nevermind.
  • Maybe add extra fruits and veggie as snack. But you may need to chg your exercise once in awhile to shock your body. From my understanding doin the same thing over and over they body won't respond. So go walking 2 to 4 miles fast and then doing something else when you get home like situp or something. Then do your regular exercise another day. Try it.

STOP EATING BACK YOUR EXERCISE CALORIES AND YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT MUCH FASTER.
  • Are you eating every 2-3 hours and do you eat breakfast?

Keep at the exercise. Your endurance level with improve in time...just be careful not to overdo it too much, but maybe do try to go a little longer every week..even if you only add a couple of extra minutes every week.

Don't obsess too much about speed of loss, and try not to focus on the "30 more lbs" part too much. Take it 5 lbs at a time, and set some mini-goals instead of stressing out over the larger one. Its easier if you just think short-term, then celebrate each loss and tackle the next mini-goal.

The endurance will come if you stay at it. Push yourself, but don't hurt yourself.

Two ways to increase your exercise time and the associated calorie burn:

    (1) Do the elliptical twice a day, even if the second time is only for a few minutes.

    (2) In addition to the elliptical you are doing, find time to go for a 20 minute walk (everyday if possible, but 3 times a week would make a difference).

Sometimes new exercises don't drop pounds immediately. Some have suggested it is because newly taxed muscles might retain some fluid at the start. Makes sense. But stay at it and you will be surprised when you suddenly see the scale changing faster. Meanwhile, you might see some size reduction due to toning and tightening.

First, please take off the caps.....it means you're yelling (or stressing a single word) and we don't need yelling.

Secondly, if you are working out, your body usually NEEDS those extra calories. MFP already has a deficit figured in your goal. So if you burn more calories the deficit would be bigger and it would be tempting to stay with that. BUT too big of a deficit is not good.

You need to just play around with your food intake and your workout cals. Some people can eat all, some can only eat some, but MOST people need to eat more when they workout. Like I said, play around with it.......it isn't a race and the weight that comes off slower tends to stay off easier. Make sure to give yourself a couple of weeks after changing something (i.e. adding to your workouts or changing your food intake) to give your body time to respond. It won't respond in a day.

    Good Luck!

I've use the elliptical my whole weight loss journey, and burn between 175-250cals and I've lost 42lbs...but I also throw walking into the mix. In the beginning I didn't have the endurance to go but I pushed myself. Laziness gets you no where.

thank you so much for all of your responses!! i really wasn't expecting this many!
and to those who are saying since i'm young and only have 30lbs to go i must be thin already, believe me i am not at all! i am super short (5 ft2) so i ought to weight alot less than 147! (my goal is 120ish give or take a few)
and i do indeed eat breakfast and eat every 3-4 hours

i think my diet seems alright so far, i eat 1200 then exercise 260ish off, so eat back 200 of those
is this bad for a 17 year old?

another question that has been plaguing me lately is 'is it bad to eat after a certain time'. i personally eat dinner around 6, which is chicken and salad or eggs or something, i try to limit carbs after this time, but then i often find myself peckish at around 9 so i eat a yogurt... in your experience, is eating late an night a hinderance?

again thank you SO much!! :)

From everything I've read, it really doesn't matter what time you eat, as long as you stick with your calorie limits.

Of course, eating a lot of heavy or spicy foods late at night might make it hard to sleep, but you clearly aren't doing that!
