Whenever I put fruit into MFP it raises my amount of sugar I've had and I know that fruit has a lot of sugar, but I thought that fructose isn't bad for you like normal sugar is. So if I ate an apple and an orange everyday, it's saying I'm having too much sugar. Does it count, or should I just ignore it? Coz I thought it was sugar in like y'know chocolate and sweets. Surely if we ate 5 fruit & veg a day, our sugars would go over 30g?

Yeah, basically ignore sugar from natural sources, it's the refined that should be restricted.
  • Greetings rhinofluff,

This is a great question! Fruit sugar, or fructose, is a simple sugar that our bodies can metabolize quickly and easily. Unless you are diabetic, simple sugars should not be a problem for anyone living a healthy/active life style. Dietitians recommend a healthy dose of fruit as fruit contains natural benefits such as fiber and antioxidants. They also contain natural vitamins and minerals unlike most synthetic over-the-counter supplements.

As with almost anything, excessive intake of fructose can cause high blood sugar, however, your daily orange and apple is definitely not setting off any warning alerts. You should be fine. Just note, sugars from fruit juice (store bought/processed) are *not* the same as fructose from your whole food apple and orange - those you definitely want to keep an eye on.

    Hope this helps,
    y.
