So I was listening to the radio this morning on my way to work and they were talking about getting Chicken Pox and how bad it is for adults. They were highly recommending for people to get their kids vaccinated. I have never been exposed to Chicken Pox and have been tested for the antibodies. I have 0% in my blood. That said I have a few questions. Would you get the shots? If you've had Chicken Pox as an adult was it really that bad? If you've had the shots did you have any problems?

Did not have the option to get the shot when I was a kid, so I got the chicken pox. It was awful. That said, my son will definitely get it.

It was bad enough when I was in 5th grade, and I've known a couple people who got it as adults, and they definitely had it much worse. If you can get vaccinated against it, go for it, particularly since the antibodies can help prevent shingles later in life.

I had Chicken Pox TWICE when I was a kid. All I can remember is rolling around on the carpet trying to itch my whole body at the same time...

If the shot was an option, I would have taken it!!!

Yes, adults can get the shot too. I had asked my Dr. 3 years ago about it and that's why I got tested for the antibodies. He didn't want to give me the prescription for the shots if I had antibodies. I was just a doody head and didn't get the shots and now am wondering what would be worse?!

i had chicken pox at age 5 and it was the worst week of my life...they were SO bad! i know a few people who have had them as adults and they were miserable. one had such a high fever they ended up in the hospital, too.

Only had it once when I was tiny. My mom took me, my two sisters and brother to a Pox party and got it out of the way while we were young. I don't even remember having it. my brother caught a mild case of it, and caught it again much worse the following year.

My step daughter never had it and she's 10 and it would drive her nuts to get it. Wonder if the shot is an easier version of it?

My kids got the shots, no side effects with them. I've known 2 adult that have gotten it, one in the hospital for almost a week the other one, sickest he's ever been. Kids AND adults can die from complications with chicken pox. If it was me, i'd probably do it.

What kind of antibodies? IgM? IgG? (i'd say they checked IgG, that's what would make sense). Still, it's not so easy... ask your doc!
  • i was 5 and damn near died. my little son at 2 years old got it and they were freaking out. i had to watch him closely for pnemonia and other secondary infections. if i were you, i would get the shots and do the kids too. my girl had a very mild case of the pox after her vaccination. it is not contagious from the shot, she has no scars, and it was managable. CP scares the hell outta me!!
