Hey all,
Last month I asked a question about doing the HCG diet for the fourth time. I lost about 100 lbs on it and my weight was 183 lbs, but my body fat percentage was 26% and my pant size was a women's size 10.
I ended up doing it one last time, because I wanted to loos about 30 more lbs, it didn't work. At the end of the three weeks this time I only lost 12 lbs, and my hair started to fall out, my nails became very brittle, and my brain stopped working. I called my nutritionist, she told me that I didn't have enough abnormal fat for it to work this time so I have to stop the diet immediately and double up on the veggies and add an extra protein portion for the three days of weening my self off it.
Since then I went to get my body fat percentage measured again and it is 24% now, and i am maintaining a 10 lb loss from this last round, but all that scare wasn't worth the 10 lb loss. I actually didn't realize that my brain wasn't working till I got a lot of things wrong at work, when I can't type a full sentence ( "attached your letter" missing the "are") and sending it to clients that is very bad.
I am off the diet now, and I weigh 173, I feel much better and I know now I can't do the HCG diet any more. I am still a size 10, but a bit smaller one. Talking to my Dr. he convinced me what I am seeing as fat may not be all fat. It may be the muscle loos due to the fat layers that are no longer there. So we decided I am going to work out, strength train, and stop thinking of my weight.
It is funny how some people just weigh more, even though I am 5'4" and weigh 173 I am not considered over weight because my body fat percentage is only 24%. I am still trying to absorb myself not being so fat, I think it will take time for me not to think of my self as fat. (keep in mind I have lost 109 lbs in one year) not much loos skin too.
I will take pics and post soon, I am very proud of myself, but it is still registering.
Thanks for taking the time to read this I know its long!

I really hope all the HCG devotees on here read about your experience and take it to heart. I'm so sorry it didn't work for you and that you had such bad side effects. That's the problem with diets that claim to give you fast results...they usually have some sort of hidden danger. Is the hair you lost growing back? Are you seeing an improvement in your brain function?
Now you can just take your time and lose the rest of what you want to lose. And definitely add weight training if you haven't been doing it. It will help firm up all those little areas you're not happy with. If you can find a gym that does an orientation, that's always good, because you can have someone show you some exercises and make sure you are doing them CORRECTLY, which is super important. Doing weight training the wrong way can be at the least ineffective and at worst cause injury.
Good luck! I hope you're able to reverse all the nasty side effects of this "diet".0 -
We are fixated on looking like we are starving, which is the problem.0

Congratulations on your weight lose and I bet you are happy that you don't have a lot of loose skin (one of my fears).
I'm not sure what the HCG diet is, but I think I heard it's a crazy low amount of calories and yeah your body just can't work with out energy. I too am getting that whole sitation where my brain isn't working, but I have other issues that can cause that too.
It will take awhile to not think about your healthy body in terms of a number on the scale, but it sounds like you are headed in the right direction and you have great, professional help. So GL and Congrats!0 -

Luckily I stopped once I noticed the hair loss, so I still have thick beautiful hair, but the HCG diet worked when I was very big. I honestly thought I was still very big because I weigh so much. I am having a hard time believing I am no longer obese, and it isn't how I look. Its my weight to my height. When I was loosing I focused a lot of the BMI chart and I was dreaming of being in my normal weight rang according to the chart.
I am realizing now that I will never even get close, because of my genes. I just carry more muscle naturally and muscle weighs more.0
