So I went spinning last night for the first time and it was all I dreamed it would be (and I mean that in a bad way - well a bad way that was actually good)! The first 20 minutes were really hard but then my body adjusted and the rest of the class was great! Any other spinners out there? Any tips/advice? What do you use when adding it as an exercise that is equivalent to spinning?

I took my 1st spin class in August but didn't go consistently until last month!
It is so hard!!! Like you said...in a good way!
I use it as a 2nd cardio session 3-4 times a week or in exchange of the elliptical.
I still try to get a weight bearing workout in several times a week as well.
    Welcome to the pain!! LOL!

I love spin class!! Your butt will be sore for a few classes. It gets better.
This is a great way to get in your cardio.

LOVE spin! i've been spinning for over 4 months now. just started cutting back because i started cycling outside. my tips would be to bring plenty of water and a towel or two (which i'm sure you already realized after spinning once),really try to maintain proper form throughout the class and don't cheat yourself-- when the instructor says add a quarter/half/full turn... ADD IT! but honestly, i see tons of people come to spin and look like they're bouncing all over the place or like they're having a seizure because they dont have proper form. most instructors will tell you all about proper form, but some you have to ask first. basically, keep a flat foot, elbows unders, dont grip too tightly and dont lock your arms. i have a HRM so i know how many calories i'm burning. but before i had the HRM i'd log it under "Bicycling, stationary, moderate effort."

I LOVE spinning!! I do a 60 minute class 2-3 times a week at my 24 hour fitness. Just a warning: if this was your first time, your butt is probably going to hurt pretty bad tomorrow and for the next couple days! But KEEP GOING anyway! It will eventually go away as your legs get stronger because you won't be sitting so hard on your seat.

Also, I would highly recommend getting a heart rate monitor if you don't already have one. It's a great tool to track your heart rate in class so you get the most out of your workout. For logging, I put 40 minutes of stationary biking at vigorous effort, and 20 minutes of stationary biking at moderate effort. This equals about the number of calories my heart rate monitor tells me I burn during class.

    Happy Spinning!

Hi my name is Lauren and I'm a Spinning addict.

Your tail end is going to hurt but it gets better. I hardly even realize I'm sitting anymore. Oh and if there are different instructors-try them. Each instructor is different and you may not like one or any of them.

My wife & I bought a used (refurbished) Schwinn spin bike a few months ago. My wife has lost lbs and inches. We are going broke taking her clothing to the tailor to get alterations!

Anyone have trouble with their knees hurting after their spinning class? I would love to keep spinning because of the results but my knees won't take it.
