A few years ago, I enjoyed exercising. I wasn't in the best shape at that time, but I did look forward to hitting the gym and working off the crap I had eaten throughout the day (though, truth be told, I didn't eat much 'crap' then). I settled down with a wonderful man and my mid-section and lower half have ballooned out of control. I have gained 38 lbs. and it SHOWS. I'm finally tired of being disappointed in myself every time I get weighed in the doctor and seeing that knowing stare from the nurse when she writes down the new weight.
So here I am! I accidentally happened upon this site and while I've always been against counting calories (I don't like living my life that way), obviously what I was doing wasn't working either. I'm a fairly good eater -- I usually eat healthy, I portion control, I'm trying to get regular soda out of my life (not that diet is much better) -- but I am LAZY. A full work week and a man and dog at home who're in constant need of *something* gives me very little time to do anything for myself, including exercising. We have a treadmill and Wii Fit Plus, and now that it's cold enough out to freeze your nose off, I'm trying to focus my attention on these things.
ANYWAY! Long story short - I don't know anyone here, would love some support from people in similar situations as me, someone to tell me to put the potato chip bag down (what? a handful won't kill me!). For a little more about the person at the keyboard, I'm 27 and female and it doesn't help my butt that I am an avid gamer, knitter, and baker.
Hoping to see success from here like everyone else!

Hi Welcome to MFP..I've been on for 82 days and lost 18 lbs..loving it cuz I only have another 18-22 to go! and yes same as u I didnt want to count cals either but it turns out that this really works for me! I cant remember what I ate for lunch unless I document it in my diary(in which turned out to be my best friend)...i was on every diet known to man and something finally clicked for me..also when u exercise you gain some calories to eat(or not eat) ..so that keeps me on track esp if i have a hungrier then hell hungry day! I hated to workout and now I walk 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon at work indoors cuz I HAVE A HUGE OFFICE SPACE! Soget off ur butt and go for it and burn burn burn thoat fat away!! you'l feel on top of the world!!! can add me as a friend if u wish!!! have a great day and a great journey of weight loss!!!0

I've learned the hard way that in order to be of value to anyone else, besides being simply used, you HAVE to take care of yourself. It is so much easier to do at your age, and you will have such a greater long term return on health and productivity as you move up in years. So, consider the exercise, relaxation, etc., that you need to be balanced as a gift that you are indeed giving to those you love. If they love you in return, they will be happy to allow you that gift as well. My husband has been incredibly supportive of my efforts over the last year, and I do see it as a tremendous gift that he has given to me. Good luck, you are on the right track.0

I'm sorry that you've run into feeling that you can't be of any value to someone else if you're not taking care of yourself, wvjanie. I've never felt that way and honestly, the main reason I'm interested in losing weight is for me only, so I don't have to cringe every time I get out of the shower. My loved ones have no interest in the way I look or what health I'm in (though I'm sure something might change if I REALLY let myself go?), but rather on WHO I am -- I guess maybe we all can't be blessed to have that in all of our lives in one form or another?
Thank you so much for the kind words. When you only have a couple hours to do 100 things between the time you get home from work to the time you go to bed to do it all over again, it gets hard to choose what you can and cannot do. Eating is always a priority, as is showering, maintaining the dog's health, and then... whoops. Bedtime. Not to mention we've just bought a house and there's a lot of work still to be done. I like to think I am exercising when I'm climbing the stairs into the basement with full laundry baskets or groceries for the freezer, or taking out the garbage/recycling, etc. But it's not enough. Combat that with exhaustion from work and a 2 hour daily commute and whew! there's no time.0
