Big Closet Purge Today!

I decided to go through my closet and my dresser drawers today and see 1) what I could fit back into and 2) what I could donate because it was too big and 3) what I could toss.
I) I could fit into clothes that I bought 3 years ago for my sister's wedding! Some of them would still need some sort of body slimmer to make it look better, but it wouldn't be "gross" if I wore it without one.
2) I have two large stacks of clothes ready to donate. One pile of my really "good" clothes I'm going to see if my Mom wants (I paid too much for them to just give them to strangers just yet...LOL) Then I have another big stack of nice clothes that I'm going to give to Goodwill.
I feel pretty pleased with myself over my progress, but I must admit seeing the amount of money that is going out the window to my Mom and/or Goodwill is kind of depressing. One more reason to lose the weight and keep it off. Keeping a wardrobe in a variety of sizes is killing my checkbook!

Way to go!
I did the same thing about a month or so ago. My closet is a third of the size it once was. Fortunately my best friend who is like my sister is the same size I used to be so I was able to pass almost everything to her. It didn't hurt as bad that way because I knew she could really use the clothes (she's been unemployed for a couple years now). It does hurt to buy new stuff, but I've been shopping clearance and second hand to get enough to get by on until I drop this last 20lbs.0 -
Make sure you don't get rid of all your bigger clothes. Some day when you are bloated from periods or some food you are going to want a bigger pair of jeans or some day you are just going to want a huge t-shirt to lounge comfy in the house.
Congratulations! It's such an accomplishment to be able to fit into your skinny clothes. Before you know it you will have to buy smaller clothes!0 -

I have a drawer of "sloppy" tshirts and sweats for wearing around the house and I kept a pair of my size 18 jeans as a reminder of how far I've come as I continue to get smaller.
I did have to go out and buy a few things. I have two business trips coming up and I didn't want to look sloppy. I tried to keep the purchases to a minimum and I definately went to less expensive stores.0 -
Well at least you kept some skinny clothes to go back to!
I'd don't know what I was thinking but I gave away all my skinny cloths a year ago because I lost all hope of losing weight
THEN...life took some funny turns and I ended up losing 80 pounds!
I really am happy, but you do feel a sting in the wallet
Especially when you try to replace business suits and such
Places like Kohl's and JH Banks help a lot0 -

I purged a lot of my skinny clothes about 3 weeks before I started losing weight... :ohwell: I just kept a few of my favorite things that I just couldn't bear to part with yet (or things that I didn't think I would want if I did lose the weight). I am glad I kept some things though. It is helping my budget!0 -
That's great! I have kept 3 sizes in my closet for some time, two weeks ago I took everything that was too big or that I just didn't wear and gave it away. It was a huge garbage bag full of stuff. The problem I am having now is that I don't have a lot of clothes left, and one more size and I won't have anything that fits, but I am so close to a the new size that I don't want to buy anything until I am there. I will have to limp along with what I have because I can't afford to buy twice! The things you don't think of when starting on a journey!0

Don't be upset that you are giving clothes away. Truthfully, we all have way too many clothes. Nothing has made me more joyful than getting rid of my clothes, passing them on to friends, or to thrift shops to sell so they can earn operating money. Especially the nice stuff that I was so happy to be able to buy at one time, you will give that joy to someone else! There is greatness in that. Find a thrift shop that the money goes to a cause you believe in, or a faith, or mission statement that matches yours.
I still remember when I was first starting out, I found a beautiful dress at a Goodwill shop for 4.00 and that was all I could afford to have a new dress for Easter that year. Seventeen years later I don't have the dress anymore, as i passed it on, but I still remember that dress... and the joy I had for a "new dress" to wear to church on Easter Sunday.0
