Does anyone use a pedometer on a daily basis? Have you seen that it has helped you with your fitness goals? Any other ideas?

Hello....

Yes I do. I can't afford a decent HRM, so I compromised and bought an omron walking style one pedometer. It had good reviews on amazon, so I thought it was worth a go at around £15. It seems to be very accurate - I've counted steps manually and then compared (up to 1000) and it was only out by 2 - I may have missed a couple of steps in my count even.
I like seeing how many steps I have taken in a day and it also records aerobic steps (when you go out for a proper walk as opposed to around the house) although I find that I have to remember to turn the unit on before starting a proper walk in order to get it to record aerobic steps (the unit turns off after a certain amount of time to preserve battery life, but still counts when it appears to be off).
Other things it records:
Calories burnt (based on distance travelled and current weight in kg)
Time spent doing aerobic steps i.e. proper walking not just pottering around the house.
Grams of fat burnt
Distance in km only
The current time in 24 hr clock.
My readings today:
Overall steps: 21124
aerobic steps: 12392
Time spent walking:108 minutes
Kcals burnt: 591
Grams of fat burnt: 35.3g
Distance in km:10.56

I have this one too, I like it, it doesn't make noise when you walk, (some do go tick-a-tick, tick-a-tick) and the one I have has a USB that I can plug into my computer and with their software keep track of it all...
I do look down at it around this time everyday and if it isn't showing that I have moved enough I go for a long walk. So it does encourage me to move more than I normally would.0
