Honey, I know how you feel. I sometimes feel the same way. I think (and this is only my opinion) that we sometimes have to give in to just "being" when our health is not good. It seems to me it helps to do whatever it takes to get your mind off yourself. And you simply may not have the strength to exercise and dieting may seem senseless. There are times in life when we just have to pamper ourselves a little.

Do you have good days and bad days? If so, why not try to do a small amount of exercise on your good days? It will probably make you feel better. I sometimes have to push myself to do something. In the eyes of some folks on the board it probably sounds like nothing. But, to me, it's a lot and it makes me feel good. And that's what matters to me. And that's what should matter to you too.

You can't judge your own activity level or your own lifestyle by others. Lots of folks do an awful lot. Like you, I can't do an awful lot for a number of reasons. And it's easy to get depressed and wonder if it's all worth it. Obviously I don't know what's going on in your life. But we all have to live within our own personal limitations. And if you just do the best you can, you'll be fine.

I know what you mean, i had a bad back then my knees went all funny and i could run or train properly but don't give up you have done so well so far. Just take it easy for a few days and try and do things that wont hurt your hip as much, keep drinking plenty of water as this will also flush your kidney's and help keep the fat off.

take every day as it comes but DO NOT GIVE UP, you owe yourself that much.

I think the biggest thing is to stop letting those reasons become excuses. I don't know the extent of your medical issues, but even if you are sick (kidney infection) you can still stay under your calorie limit. And as far as the nerve issue... there are stretches you can do to help with that (I had that issue when I was pregnant), so you can do the stretches, and then walk, and stretch some more. I am not saying you are doing things wrong. But maybe you are going about it wrong. Instead of thinking of all the reason you CAN'T do it, think of the things you can do... CAN you stay under your calories? Yes. CAN you go for a walk? Probably. CAN you go for a swim? Probably. I know in my case, I am over weight because I always come up with excuses as to why I CAN'T eat better, or why I CAN'T work out. But I have changed my state of mind. Now... I think of all the reasons why I CAN and HAVE to work out. And the "can'ts" have turned to, "I can't go out tonight, I am going to the gym"... that type of thing. I am sorry you are struggling with your medical issues. But just think, if you can get your weight under control and get healthier, then you will probably elliminate most of those medical problems from your future. Good luck to you!

Sunshine, they r not excuses at all....I was in so much pain yesterday i still got on my stationary bike and did 12 mins then my abs....Which prob hurt me more than helped....

I did the stretches they didn't help i always stretch before exercising! ALWAYS I walk everywhere i go, i have a home gym so i have no excuses!!! Every nite after i finish supper i do a little something for at least 1/2 hour of weight training and 10 min bike.

But when u r in PAIN it is quit impossible to train....W
So please don't go there!!! where there is pain there is gain ( i still try to eat well tho as well as i can)...Cause the pain takes over....As for my kidneys it was so bad i had to stop exercising for a couple days then i got back on tarck last week now this!!!

I wasn't saying that you were using excuses. I am sorry if it came accross like that. I just meant, for me at least, it is easier to say, "I am sick, so I can eat what ever I want" instead of staying below my calorie limit. I was not at all insisting that you work your butt off if you are in pain. I have heard that with the way MFP sets up your calories, you can still lose weight by just eating alone, WITHOUT exercising. So I was just saying, stick with it, even if it means you cant work out, still eat under your calories. I am sorry that i upset you. I didnt mean it. Like I said before, I don't know you, or your medical problems. So I was just throwing out some ideas. I know my mind takes over sometimes, and makes me feel like it isn't worth it... but in the end it really is. No matter what that means to you. I hope this makes better sense.

  • Have you tried yoga? I would highly recommend going to a studio with a licensed instructor, not just a class offered at a gym or a video. They can help you make sure you are doing the poses correctly so you don’t hurt yourself, plus some instructors specialize in people with health problems.

If you have cable television a lot of times they have exercise channels you watch a session of yoga in your home and follow along. I too have had lots of medical issues that seem to sideline you. You sound determined just frustrated and I totally get that. Hang in there.

I am determined i did exercises yesterday even tho it hurt like hell..Which prob made it worse.....

Tonite no exercise just a nice meal ( western omlette with toast) and a nice hot bath followed by a massage by my hubby and hopefully all this will be gone tomorrow!!!
  • With you pain problems don’t waste your money on videos. You will be better off taking a few classes in person and using www.yogaanonymous.com or another website that offers free yoga videos. And by the way, there are lots of studios that offer FREE yoga videos on line. The key to not hurting yourself in yoga is proper form, and that is very hard to learn from a video. Plus, you may need to alter poses and videos will not cover that either.

Where I live, yoga classes costs about $8-$12 a class. If I only had $10 a month to spend on myself, I would use it on one class a month and then use free resources for an at home practice. Also, several studios offer specials on livingsocial or other similar websites. I recently got one where I could take 5 classes for $20.

Most yoga instructors I’ve met have been very kind and compassionate people. If you explain to the instructor your pain problems and the resources you have, I’m sure she would be willing to help show you what you could do at home to help.

And yes I am a full yoga convert. Before I started yoga a little over a year ago, I would have almost daily migraine headaches. A coworker suggested yoga to me and at first I dismissed her because I had done some videos and just didn’t think it was for me and that it would help. I finally signed up to take classes on a 6 week beginner special, and about a month into it noticed that I had not had a single headache for over a week. I now know several people with similar stories.
