OK, well i have GAD General Anxiety Disorder, and i know it effects me and my travels in weight loss. it really makes you think you are having heart attacks after another, last night i thought it was a stroke, Who else has these problems and would you guys have tips or ways to feel better even when you feel like you're about to DIE. We all know these attacks can be debilitating. I would like to hear some comments :)

I have social anxiety disorder, so I know how difficult anxiety can be, although I've never experienced a panic attack to the degree of which you described.
With me, pretty much all that works is avoiding stressful situations altogether, OR, being medicated. Your doctor should be able to prescribe an anti-anxiety med that could help you.
  • I do too, have you anything that you've tried thats worked??? Its horrid

I suffer from anxiety after an assault that nearly killed me, I don't take med's for it and after the attack locked myself away for over 8 months. I have since realized that I should have gone back to what I have always used and now use again to control this. its a form of self medication involving mindfulness meditation this is were one focuses on the breath or a mantra, controlling your breathing and allowing the thought and also the emotion surrounding the issues to dissolve.

There is more involved in the practice but if you would like more information or even help in trying this out please feel free to PM, Add or just ask me and Ill try and help you understand the basics to allow you to practice yourself, I am not religious, however have adopted and more Spiritual/Buddhist belief system in my every day life. This has helped me over come many things that have plagued me in my past.

I suffer from GAD although this has been well controlled with medication for many years, I also find meditation and yoga very good, I'm honestly not sure why people are so down on medication, seems to be quite the stigma with mental illness and medication, wether people think they'll be looked down on as weak or something I don't know, but if you are suffering from the type of attacks that I was suffering from where I couldn't function as a human being, let alone a mother and wife, then you need to get some help from somewhere, wether it's cognetive therapy, medication or alternative you need to find something that works for you so that you can live again. I wish you all the best on your journey.

P.s I'm never ashamed to tell people I'm "mental", the more we talk about it the more people will talk about it and seek help, the stigma needs to be smashed.

Bless you heart...I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. My significant other, Vietnam vet, had a terrible case which left him debilitated for quite some time....Through extensive therapy which included, initial meds then meditation, exercise (walking if you can believe it), journalizing and etc. he had totally recovery. This program was dealing with the physical, emotional and spiritual you.

You should see him now, 50 lbs. lighter, healthy, vibrant, humourous. Very well rounded and a happy man.

Are you seeing a doctor? I'm sorry to hear you are going through this also. There are meds that will help you during these attacks, and doctors can teach you breathing and relaxation techniques to help also.

I hav GAD, social anxiety and suffer from panic attacks.

It's a terrible thing for anyone to go through so hugs!

Mine pretty much controls my whole life. I worry about everything, the only way I can describe it is worrying about everything, every minute of everyday.

I have medication, diazapam to take when I feel an attack coming on but I know the only way I will be able to stop them completely is to address the worrying...but I'm just not ready to that myself
