I started the 30 DS October 4th. I took sundays off and occasionally missed a day, so it pretty much took 2 weeks at each level to comlete 10 days.

I do also run occasionally, at the most 2-3 miles 2 days a week. Due to nasty weather some weeks I didn't run at all. As far as diet, I was trying to stay at about a 500 calorie deficit 5 days a week. (I always eat my exercise calories) I am not real careful about what I eat, though I probably eat a bit healthier than the average american diet. The only macronutrient I keep track of is protein, make sure I have plenty of it.

I have always had a belly even when I was skinny in college. I am the most overweight person in my immediate family. So I have decent genes. I was just out of shape and not paying attention. I lost about 17 lbs in 2010 after I finally got fed up w/ myself and started running. (Previously I had only run a complete mile once in my life in jr hi, and thought I would die.) I also felt like a hypocrite because I am a physical therapist and have never been in shape in my life. I kept that 17 lbs off more or less, but was having trouble losing more. I started MFP in sept and finally the weight started to budge again. Reading the forums introduced me to the 30 day shred. So I decided to try it. Wow. Here are the results:

Lost 2.5 " off my waist
Lost 2.5 " off my hips
Lost 1 " off my bust
Lost 6 lbs

My thoughts on the 30 DS: It is hard and I like that. I can't complete all the advanced exercises on each level still, so it will continue to challenge me for quite a while. And I can increase weights to increase the challenge as well. When I started it I couldn't even complete the beginner but I could easily complete the beginer level (except push-ups) by each day 10. It is hard on the knees, especially level 3 - but it is modifiable. If you have no exercise experience you might have trouble modifying. But with just a little experience you should be able to bring it to your level. If necessary just march in place after trying a few reps of whatever she is doing. I prefer jillians style she makes me work and she is honest. But I am a PT so I make people do exercises they don't like too ;) The best thing is that it provides an intense workout in 20 minutes. I am a stay at home mom of 2 preschoolers, so I don't get more than 1/2 hour to exercise most days.

What I learned from my experience. I need to exericise 4 to 5 days a week. And I need to and can work really hard. This experience has shown me how I can keep this type of exercise in my lifestyle, and get in even better shape.
