2 days ago I did (obviously too much) a cardio workout that has left me very sore. Today seems to be worse then yesterday. I have included protein shakes, tons of water and stretching to help. I know that my muscles need to heal but how long should I wait before I do more exercises? Is one day enough even though I am still sore?

I have a rule about pain after working out:

If you are so sore that you can not do basic things (like sitting, standing, bending over) without pain, then you need to take a day or two off to give your body a chance to rest. However, minor pain that is just bothersome will often times work itself out with another workout.

After ending up hurt from pushing myself too hard, too much -- I've learned that when all else fails.. take a rest day. It isn't a sign of weakness or of failure. Your body NEEDS to rest.

Surprisingly, I've found that doing a light workout does wonders for soreness. Try going for a long brisk walk and get your muscles moving again.

I usually give it one good day of rest and then do another workout. I think it helps flush the lactic acid out that makes you feel sore. I usually feel much better once I get moving again. :)
  • I think I will give it a go today since I gave it a day off already. Now that some of you have mentioned it, when I do get moving around the soreness seems to go away. I'll take it easy with a brisk walk rather then more cardio. Thanks for the tips
