When did you buy new clothes

Buying new clothes....when? My clothes are a bit loose, no problem yet, they are finally starting to fit right, in fact, but to those who have lost a lot, how often did you have to get all new clothes?

I am still wearing my baggy size 12s. I bought one pair of size 10 jeans and some used med shirts. I am waiting to get to goal to buy more
  • I bought new when I felt baggy and sloppy in my clothes. Turns out it was down two sizes (20W to 16W). I wasn't going to, but was encouraged to by a good friend and it really made a difference in how I felt and looked. Suddenly people noticed that I had lost weight.

I was forced to start buying new stuff when my pants started falling off (from a tight 16-18 to a 8-10 presently). That happened at about 30lbs. In a way it annoyed me as I was only half way through losing what I wanted to lose, but hey - it's all good. When I shopped, I only bought a couple of things...just enough to tide me through to the new wardrobe I have planned for 10-15 lbs from now!!

I was given a pair of 16s to work down too from my 20s. I had a couple of pairs of 22s and 20s but I just bought a pair of 18s last week... I haven't worn them all day (yet, gonna try to do that today) I just get clothes whenever... Buying them from Good Will is the best because they are cheap and it helps my community.

I buy new pants when I can take them off easily without unzipping and unbuttoning! Tops I wear as long as I can until they look way too big. I'm not going to buy a bunch of new clothes until I stop losing but you have to have something! I shop at thrift/consignment and other cheap places just to fill in while I'm losing so I don't invest too much in something that I won't be keeping. BUT if I have a special occassion I will buy something nice as a reward : )

When I started to lose weight, I bought a lot of casual dresses. I think dresses are the way to go when you are losing weight because you can wear them through a wide range of sizes. I'm wearing dress now (at a size 12) that I was at a size 20... I can just belt them if they're baggy. I had a lot of cute dresses that fit very tightly and looked very short months ago, but now look great! I didn't want to have to buy all new jeans and fitted shirts every month or 2. The only thing I've had to buy is tights & leggings -- because you can't get away with baggy tights!

I will buy some new clothes as I need them and probably never actually switch my entire wardrobe over at once. I already own lots of small shirts for some reason, so probably I'll buy a few jeans at size 6 (I'm a size 9 now) or whenever my smallest jeans become ill-fitting, or when I reach the weight that I would like to permanently maintain. I don't know what that weight is, but I expect that it will be somewhere between 110-125 (I'm 5'2").

I didn't worry about the tops much.

I did buy new pants though, and I bought them snug, It's like having a little biofeedback for the times your tempted to over eat.

I first bought new pants when the ones I had been wearing could be pulled all the way up under my boobs and would fall down if I didn't hang onto them! LOL

I probably waited too long..... :blushing:

As I lose weight, I am working my way back down through the clothes that I had when I was putting it on. I will need to buy a couple of belts, because I am currently on the last hole. I am also fitting better into some old suits. I think it is easier for guys because our styles don't change like a woman's style.
  • I bought some last night (spent $29 and got new work out pants- nice ones, 2 pairs of jeans, 2 tops, and a cardigan).
My jeans and slacks were literally falling off of me as I walked (kind of a problem! ha!). There is no way I am going to make it with my clothes now, so I am just going to try my hardest to keep the clothes I do have to buy in between at incredible bargains. I started at a tight 16, and 14's are now perfect on me- and all my XL tops looks WAY too baggy. I look like a box, and I want to feel good about my weight loss, and not miserable :)

I'm still wearing a lot of my old clothes. Pretty much all of the same shirts and workout clothes. I needed new jeans, but my old ones are ok for just bumming around if I wear a belt.
  • Like many of you, I bought new clothes when I couldn't keep the old ones on. I was in serious danger of "dropping trou" at any moment. Went from a size 20 to 14. Same with tops - about to fall off my shoulders. Since I am only about half way on my journey I focused on a few classic pieces. 2 pair jeans, 1 pair black pants, 1 pair brown pants and some tops and sweaters that mix and match. I want my "full" new wardrobe to be at my goal weight. Katey11

I;m still kinda of waiting to get all new clothes. But I waited until my clothes were "commerical big". You how on commercial they show the before and after the pics, with the too big pants - LMBO! Then I only bought I few clothes, just to get me thru. Didn't want to spend to much money because I still have the 15lbs to go. I tried to keep wearing my old clothes, but people thought I was showing off!

As I was losing I was able to shop my closet for a long time slowly getting into clothes that hadn't fit for a long time. I bought just a few things to tide me over as I needed them. I bought things tight and would wear them until they were loose. Skirts and tops are pretty forgiving. I sew and have taken in a few things.

When I got to my goal of a size regular 10 (down from an 18W+ hallelujah!) it was the beginning of summer and I really had nothing to wear so I bought cute shorts and t's on sale or at discount stores. It was so much fun to fit into the regular store sizes. Now I'm holding off buying anything again as I want to reach a size 8 but with our cold weather here I will need to get a few things. Now I have one pair of jeans but I don't plan on buying another until I get into an 8. We'll see…I may get pretty tired of those jeans…

A few years ago, when I had lost 20 kg (=44lbs) I didn't buy anything until I got to my goal. That's now the reason I haven't any clothes that fit to me!! LOL
Anyway, while loosing weight my pants were extremely big, so I was going to a dressmaker to adjust my clothes. I had my clothes shrinked there... about three or four times before I bought new and it was the cheapest way I could find...

I HAD to buy new pants when it started getting cold because I cut all my every day pants into shorts for the summer. I had one pair of pants left from before I gained weight as well, so they're back in rotation. I only bought two pairs, so I have three pairs of pants! Only three! I will say that going to the store and seeing that I really did fit in a a smaller size was a HUGE motivator and made me feel like all the work is worth it. I'm trying to hold out until I'm down another size before buying more pants, but necessity might force me to buy at least one more pair. Even once I'm down a size I'll try to make due with taking in the pants I have now and one or two more pairs, since I hope to be down yet another size before too long.

No one but my boyfriend really noticed I'd lost any weight until I bought new pants, and having people ask me 'have you lost weight?' is super encouraging. I still haven't bought any new shirts, and I think that would help even more.

*edit* to say that I went down a pant size after about 15 or 20 pounds, but I already almost fit into the next size down, probably will in about 5 pounds.

I didn't want to buy any new clothes until I hit my first goal of being out of the obese range (3 more lbs to go) and it wasn't a big deal until this last 5 lbs and now my pants are falling off and my shirts seem clownish so I bought a velour sweatsuit yesterday (size 12-14 down from a size 20) and a couple of long sleeve shirts (XL down from a 2X). I am going to sit down at the sewing machine tomorrow and take in some of my pants and shirts so I can get by with them.

I am a fixture at the thrift store! I have gone from a 22 to a 14 since July. I donated all my old clothes as they became too baggy and head off down the aisles looking for new treasures. It's odd to open my closets and not recognize ANY THING hanging in there! I am having a blast shopping though! My thrift store has a 25% off sale every Monday so for 20 bucks I can come home with quite a few new looks.

I say shop as often as you want just don't pack the closets until you get to where you want to be!

I have 2 large boxes of smaller size clothes that is used to be able to wear from 14 down to 10 that are generic in style. I'm hoping to only have to buy "new style" pieces to work with the stuff I have. I have 3 beautiful dresses that I can't wait to fit into. That'll thrill me beyond belief!!!

I have to see myself being able to buy fun trendy stuff because it's been so long. Seems like a long road ahead, being that I'm only a month into this new lifestyle.

I love this topic, keep it coming. I want to hear about everybody's new clothes. I figured out that I have enough sizes in my closet to clothe about a dozen people, so I should be good going most of the way down. I can't wait to be able to give away my fat clothes.
