the fastest women was a full hour before i arrived. how do they they run 13 miles in an hour and 20 minutes?!? :) my time was 2:26. it is a bit slower than i wanted, but not too bad for a first-timer.

what is your best half-marathon time?

Wow, your time is good as well. I haven't done a half marathon but I am registered to do one in January 2012 for the Tinkerbell half marathon at Disneyland. I hope I can stay under 3:00 or 3:15. This will be my first. Time limit is 3:30 and suppose to stay under 16:00 min per mile.

    Great job!

I've walked a few 1/2 marathons and my fastest was 3:08. I hope to come close to that for next week's race!

it would probably take me around 1 hour and 45-50 min.

I've never done it, but it takes me an hour and 15 min to go about 10.5 miles, so it's just a guess.

People who do halfs & full marathons are at different levels. The lady was averaging abut a 6:06 min mile pace? That's not too uncommon. I run cross country for college, and our assistant coach runs a 10k at about that pace, and she is 40 years old. It just depends on your abilities and training and history.

Your time is still VERY good. The fact that you can even run a half is EXTREMELY good. Don't get down on yourself; YOU are NOT competing against those women!

@ Sandybeach. Wow, not bad for walking. Was it like a walk/run. If i may ask how many minutes did you walk vs. run?

you'll be able to do it, even if you have to walk a bit. i walked a half-marathon in june (after abdominal surgery in april) and my time was 3:34. it was a pretty easy pace. good luck!

i can keep up a 6:30 pace for 4 miles and a 9:00 pace for 10. anything over that and i slow down substantially. :) maybe i just need more practice at that length to keep my speed up. my goal is to get to an 8:00 pace for 10 miles.

My first half marathon, this year, was 2:22:22 officially (although it included a toilet stop).

I'm signed up for both a full and half marathon next year! In all honesty I'm so excited

I did my first half in August - my time was 2:00:45 - gutted about those extra seconds, lol

I did a half without training yesterday! (I know, I know.. big slap on the wrist, you should always train..)

I finished it in about the same time you did, 2:26. I'll have my official time tomorrow when it's in the papers.
I'm going to train and do another one this summer - see if I can't get between 1:30 - 2:00 :)

I haven't done one yet, but my projected time based on the time it takes me to run 17k is 2 hours 10.

I ran my first half two weeks ago, and finished in 1:57:07. Pretty pleased, since my goal was to finish in less than two hours.

I have run 2 half marathons so far and have finished them in 2:06 and 2:02 respectively with a reasonable but not excessive level of training (3-4 runs per week including one long run at the weekend).

I've signed up for my 3rd one next March to try to get under the pesky 2hr mark - I'd better start training now I guess!

First half yesterday, 1h45m30s - very pleased! Thats about 8 minute miles on average

Best time yesterday - 1h2m - that means they were running the thing at 13 mph - a pace of about 4.5 minute miles.

To put that in perspective - My pace on a 1.7 mile course (its a fun event run by my running club) is 6m10s per mile. And I was tired at the end.

In other words - they get round that quickly by running ridiculously fast!!!!

PS - very well done! Getting round is the biggest challenge anyone faces - speed is a physical thing - completion is a mental one. Win that battle and speed will follow.

I have run 2 half marathons, 2:00:06 and 2:02:09. I plan to break 2 hours next month. Ran a 15K this past Sat at a 8:40 pace, so I should break it.

Have also run 1 full marathon, but ran out of steam and had minor injury around mile 20. Ran 5:22:32.

I got my time back this morning - 2:18:18 - even better than I'd thought!
I'm going to get back to running four times a week and see if I can do a half somewhere this spring and get under the 2 hour mark.. and then I want to hit 1:30 this time next year :)

Congrats! Bottom line, your speed is governed by two things, training and genetics.

My best half is 1:28:48 (downhill course).

I just ran one this morning in 1:37:49.

Congrats on completing a half! Lots of people wouldn't even try, so a BIG pat on the back for that.

I have run two-2:26ish both times. That was 10 years ago. Goal is to run one or two more before I turn 50

I have run two, first was 2:11:11, second was 2:18:??. Hoping to run a full marathon in April, and since I'll be about 40+ pounds lighter than when I ran these halfs, I'm hoping to finish between 4:15 and 4:30.

I did my first half this September and was pleased with my time of 2:16:01!!!! Not too shabby for an old lady beginner!!! For next year I'm planning another half or two and a full next fall. Hoping to shave off a few minutes for the half and keep the full right around 4 hours if at all possible.

You did well!!!! Just finishing is seriously SOOOOOO great!

my most recent half marathon which was two weeks ago was 1:42:43. That's a PR for me. Before that my best time was 5 or 6 years ago at 2:02.

Every one is different, every race is different. So many variables to factoring in.

i did one last month in 2hr 30 which included a queue for the toilets for about 5 minutes.

I was slower than my usual pace, but i was running with a friend and chatting too. It was brilliant fun x
