Hi there ladies, and occasional men who like to sneak ;) I have a concern which I'm pretty sure is not that bad, and it has to do with *drum roll please* that awful time of the month. When I was in High School, my period was awfully heavy and it use to make me sick. I'd throw up, usually get lightheaded, I'd get cramps from HELL, break out into cold sweats, bad diarrhea [you get the idea! - hey, that rhymed!] Anyway, once I became 21 it all went away. Now that I started dieting and exercising, my period has gone back to that period of HELL! A typical period [after age 21 and before this month] USE to look like this for me:

Day 1 - Spotting, couple of cramps here and there
Day 2 - Not that heavy, not a lot of cramps
Day 3 - Spotting, not a lot of cramps
Day 4 - Almost gone, not a lot of cramps
Day 5 - Spotting, couple of cramps here and there
Day 6 - Absolutely nothing but one or two drops on my pad
Day 7 - Gone!

Well I'm only on my second day this time, but holy crap. Yesterday I was literally DYING. I had cramps from hell, I was in so much pain I couldn't even eat that much, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything, and I felt nauseous as HELL! Today, I wake up, take a nice hot shower, and my period is so heavy it ran down my leg once I got out of the shower AND I got lightheaded and threw up. That hasn't happened to me since I was 16! What the hell is going on?

Oh wow. I'd say give your doc a call on Monday. You may have fibroids. Same thing was going on with a coworker and that's what she had. Google fibroids for more info. Hope you can get this under control hon. Feel better!

Of course, you know most of us will tell you that you need to see your gynecologist about this. The spotting and then heavy break-through causes me to think: fibroids. Also, the Pill can regulate, shorten and lighten a period. So there's hope if you end up with the diagnosis of "You just have bad periods." Good luck!
  • I can relate, mine were very much the same when I was 16 and it lasted all the way up til I was about 22 or 23. It's an actual medical condition. If you go to your OBGYN and tell them the problems (and yes, all the nasty nitty gritty problems) they can probably tell you what's going on and they can put you on a birth control that will help with that and ease a lot of the problems.

I hope this helps you! What always worked best for me was taking 3 extra strength midols, a heating pad, having my legs slightly elevated (if I was lying on my back) or being curled up as tightly as possible in the fetal position, and lying perfectly still. I know that it is hard when you feel like someone is cutting you open but the more you wiggle and toss and turn and kick the longer it's going to hurt. If you try to lay as still as possible you won't add to the pain and the you'll start to feel it when the midols kick in.

Thank you ladies! I guess I'll talk to my mom [she works at a GYN clinic so she can probably get me a RX for birth control pills] =)

I recommend having her make an appointment for you. You don't want to find out it is something easily fixable if you were seen after it becomes more difficult to fix.

I was the same from age 10 to 25 (or so). Being on the pill helped tons. Now I'm off the pill and back to not being able to shower w/o a huge mess. It's disgusting and I can't believe what comes out of me!! If you aren't on the pill I'd suggest trying it. You are young and shouldn't have to deal with this every month. I also tried the depo shot and that made my period almost disappear but it made my face break out - BAD.

Please please please go see your gyno. My sister who is 45 starting having a change in her TOM with some heavy bleeding. We just thought it was fibroids too. It turned out she had developed cervical/uterine cancer and they caught it really early and she is now in remission. I don't mean to scare you by any means but you should have this checked out, not only to make you feel better but to rule out anything that might not be right.
