Just curious, does anyone have a day that if they hope to lose all their weight by? or is it more just an in general weight loss?
For example, I hope to lose the last pesky 10 pounds by my birthday simply because I want to feel my best when I destroy my liver for my 19th!

I do not have an 'end date' - changing my body and life is enough work without the added stress of a deadline. LOL

I don't have an end date. It's too much to put onto yourself. If you commit to a lifestyle change, you should not force it. Allow it to become routine.

Sure, it helps to want to look good for the odd occasions, but I would never make that my goal here. They are perks.

Aim to lose the weight. Trust me, that will be more than enough to focus on. Give yourself weekly goals if you like, but don't feel terrible if you don't meet them exactly as you would prefer. You're main goal should be to improve yourself, and then motivate it in the longrun!

its ok to have that goal though as it keeps you motivated. like a reunion, wedding or whatever. I will be 45 in May and I would love to be at 150 or 155 but if I dont get there by then, its ok
  • I don't have a specific end date, but I have an occasion that I want to look good for and have an idea of what that ideal weight will be. Of course, I want to go as far as I can and will hopefully meet that when I want, but its not the end. Ultimately, I'll already look better than I would have if I had never lost any weight.

Oh I completely agree! I lost about 30 lbs in one year, and kept all of it off the remaining year (even lost an additional 5 from general clean eating). But I've learned that if I want to push myself I need a focused "end" to which I can switch to maintaining and muscle building again:) I probably SHOULD have also mentioned.. my birthdays mid April, not exactly right around the corner!

I love how you worded your post though, I might have to keep coming back to that whenever I feel a little down!

When I started this a year ago, I told myself that it took over twenty years to put all the weight on... so if I could take it off in a couple of years I'd consider myself happy. I'm now only about seven pounds from my goal (yes, in the dreaded "OMG-I've-plateaued-and-the-last-ten-pounds-refuse-to-leave" mode!), but I'm starting to feel pretty content with how very far I've come.

Take your time, don't put excessive pressure on yourself, and enjoy the changes that will come :-)

Wow, i'm honoured! Glad to give anyone a pick-me-up wherever possible :)

It's difficult to determine exactly when to make that switch from weight loss to maintenance. I was asking around the threads about it previously and found the consensus with a lot of people, especially the 'success stories' threads, is that you should switch to 'maintenance mode' when you are at a comfortable, ideal and healthy weight by general standards AND your own standards. If mathematically (BMI Calculating) it indicates a healthy weight, and you don't cringe in the mirror and love what you see, then THAT'S the time to switch.

Personally, I look forward to that day :D
