I'm thinking of trying it. What fitness level would be required?

The classes I went to had all levels of fitness - regulars who were in good to great shape and
more low impact new comers in the back - some who had to take breaks etc and go at their own pace.
It was a good mix - I liked it. It's probably going to depend on the class... Think of it as sort of fast dancing for an hour straight.

It's very fast-paced, but like anything else, you do what you can and work your way up.

Zumba can be done by anyone at any level. You can follow the instructor at your own pace. It is a great and fun workout, especially if you have lots of rythm and can dance well. You will pick up on it very quickly.

I am not blessed with any rythm and the instructor actually laughed at me the first few times I tried it. I eventually caught on!

    Good luck.

It's intense but it's so much fun. But you will get an awesome workout. It's very high impact but they give low impact options if u aren't ready yet.

ANY fitness level can enjoy Zumba because everything can be done at your own pace. In the beginning, it can be very intimidating, but you will get the hang of it. It is great fun and burns TONS of calories! I do it 2 or 3 times a week at the local YMCA and I LOVE it!!!! Good luck on your journey!
  • I started Zumba this past spring after knee surgery and 6 weeks of PT. I love it - so much fun. My class is mixed ages and abilities; everyone does what they can but after a few classes, I could do more than I thought. Good weight loss, toning and made new friends as well. You get out of it what you put in. I can't say enough good things about Zumba.

One suggestion I'd like to make... Although your first inclination will be to stand in the back, you will learn it so much more quickly if you are near the instructor and can see her moves. I would suggest being on the first or second row - who cares what anyone else thinks? It's your workout and you should get the most from it! Good luck!

Thanks - I will try to be where I can see the instructor. Your're right, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Everyone's going to be so busy watching the instructor to get the moves right, no one is going to notice what you're doing, anyway!
