Lose fat in legs?

Any ideas how to lose fat in the leg area? I was a catcher in softball for 14 years and now that I am not playing anymore my legs are starting to gain more fat than muscle like I used to have. I have a real difficulty losing fat in this area. Any suggestions?

That's pne of my biggest problems too - I used to dance and cheer. I do weights/squats and bouht Jillian Michael's Killer Buns and Thighs. I definitely still have soft spots but I see a lot more definition making its way onto my legs - I almost like them again!0

I naturally have a very curvy figure, and my thighs especially are rather "large" in comparison to my body. To keep them lean and toned, make sure you do a lot of cardio. I love kickboxing and tae-bo. Also, Tone Fitness, and other brands, have slimming bands that you wear around your waist, arms, or thighs, which help to make them sweat more. Hope this helps! And cheers to my fellow curvy ladies!0

*sigh* To me it's mission impossible. I just posted a reply to another thread saying that after 10 pounds were gone, my pant size still stays the same...

Targeted fat loss is impossible. Your body adds and removes fat based entirely on genetics. Your best bet is to just have a solid calories deficit to lose weight, and eventually your problem areas will start to cut up.
Targeting strength gain is possible, but won't get rid of any fat/flab in the area.0 -

Go squats! Squats really help with the thighs...try weighted squats if you are fit. Jump squats are great too!0

Running made a huge difference in my legs and bum. And time. There was very little change in the first maybe three months / 12 pounds.0

I have to agree with others RUN.0

I ran for a year, lost 40 pounds, my legs were still jiggly! I started lifting heavy weights, squats, lunges and dead lifts and in 6 weeks, I haven't lost an ounce, but I've lost inches everywhere. My jeans are looser in the waist and finally (at last!) in my legs.
You need to lose overall fat and then your legs will slim down too. It's almost impossible to spot train any part of your body. You need to lower your overall body fat percentage. At least that's my experience.0 -
Anything to put resistance on those thighs!! I squat like crazy..All kinds of squats...and kind of strength training exercises for thighs will help alot and of course mix in some cardio0

Don't have an answer, but very curious about the responses. I don't know how much smaller my top can get before the bottom has no choice left, but I'm definitely not proportionate.0

I like how everyone ignored this post completely; even though it's 100% true.
But go on, keep believing that your 'muscle lengthening yoga' will burn fat in your legs.0 -
Unfortunately, you can't pick where you lose fat from - just focus on bringing down your overall fat percentage. The rest is genetics :flowerforyou:0

exactly..use a combination of diet, cardio and weight training along with a calorie deficit to bring down your overall bodyfat% and to build/maintain muscle0 -
I agree with the posters above - you can't choose to lose fat from one particular area (oh, how I wish I could!) but if you reduce your overall body fat and tone up the muscles in your legs you should see some change.
I have lost over 20kg and am 4 pants sizes smaller but my thighs are still wobbly, in spite of running 4 times a week. I know I need to do more strength training so I'm working that in a few times a week too.
Ultimately though, you will always have the body shape you are genetically programmed for (ie, I have chunky thighs!) but eating well and exercising has made a BIG difference.0 -

Spot reduction is a myth.0 -
Agreed. You can't target fat loss. It just depends on how your body stores fat. Typically if you gain fat quickly in your waist (for example), it'll also come off quickly there.
You may certainly try increasing muscle there to firm up the legs a bit. But then just be consistent and patient. Keep working out and eating healthy and it'll work its way off eventually!0 -
Hiking works for me, mainly because I'm to lazy to go jogging.0

That's the same issue for me. It is literally the last place I notice weight loss from. I know you cannot spot reduce fat, but try jillian's killer buns and thighs video. If you can work those muscles more, you will burn more fat and those muscles will be toned again.0
