Breast Augmentation-Exercise

Has anyone had breast augmentation performed? If so, how long did you wait to exercise?
My MD was not very specific, he just told me to 'take it easy, avoid anything that causes discomfort'. All of the literature says wait approximately 4 weeks before jogging and lifting weights.
I just want to walk. Nothing unreasonable, just a 30 or 40 minute stroll around 3.5 mph. I ran a marathon last Saturday, to me, walking is pretty minimal.
(Oh yeah, my surgery was Thursday.)

I couldn't do yoga, push ups or upper body work outs for at least 4 weeks. I think I started walking around 3 weeks but I had other stuff done that slowed me down.0

Walking is fine. I would wait atleast 4 weeks for any upper body exercise though!0

Walking is fine. Just becareful of your arms/motions. It was a few weeks until I was comfortable to actually work out (weights/running). I think each person is different (healing and pain tolerance).. so essentially, if you feel pain - stop doing it... if you think it's too soon to do it - stop doing it. The last thing you want to do is damage an implant and have to go through that all again. I also had to make sure I had great sports bras.. at first, I wore two to make sure nothing was moving too much.0

Walking is fine. I was walking a few days after. If they are under the muscle, wait more than four weeks to start doing upper body work that involves your chest. I know after even six weeks that swimming still hurt. It took me a while to get to do some chest workouts. Like six months. Even four months in I couldn't lift myself onto a boogie board without a bit of pain. I still don't do push ups a year and a half after.
The rule is, if it hurts, Don't do it!!!0 -
Had mine done August 31 (to re-fill all that was lost). No arm use first week at all, no weights on arms for about 4 to 6 weeks. Start lightly on on the weights (I went back to starting with 5 lbs and have worked back up to 10lb). If you over do you can cause problems that would require replacement. I had one settle in nicely and my non-dominant side is taking longer. Dr told me to exercise that arm/pecs a little more than the other for a while, it seems to be working. I am up to 5 pushups at a time now too. Had no trouble walking (I don't run). Best thing I have ever done for my self image (after losing the weight of course).0

I plan to have mine filled back in after I am at goal for 6-12 months. What kind did you get? I've been looking at the "gummy bear" implant. They look really good. I'm 5'10" and I'm gonna need some curves on top because I'm hourglass and more bottom heavy.
Congrats for taking this step! It's a big decision to have your body altered.
As an RN, take it easy. Walking should be awesome!1 -
I did saline under muscle. Hubby happy for size and we wanted the fewest chemicals in my body (high cancer risk in my family). They are still fairly firm and are gradually softening.0

Thanks so much for all the responses!!!
I definitely didn't want to cause myself any setbacks, but figured that walking is a natural everday activity that shouldn't be too strenuous.
I'm 5'4, chose 500cc silicone implants under the muscle which took me from a small A to a full C.0 -
Why don't you call him and ask for specifics? My MD was not very specific, he just told me to 'take it easy, avoid anything that causes discomfort'. All of the literature says wait approximately 4 weeks before jogging and lifting weights.0 -
You aren't supposed to carry/lift more than 15 pounds for a few weeks. I took it easy. It took awhile for me to feel comfortable enough to do push up or pull up for a year or anything like that! Good luck with healing! Takes awhile to get used to!0
