I am only able to get to the gym for 45 mins twice a week MAX...
What should I do with those 45 mins to get the biggest bang for my buck?

    Hmm, kettlebells perhaps?

Will you be exercising outside of the gym at other times during the week?

Zumba ... up to 1000/hr (depending on your size)

I would lift weights or use the resistance machines and then find some non-gym dependent option for cardio.

I will be trying my best to get in other forms of exercise while not at the gym..but this will be where I will get the majority of my workout...

Classes like Zumba would be terrific but right now I have no flexibility on my schedule so it's more likely that I'll have to just work on my own...

I would do a 5 minute warmup, 20 minute circuit of heavy lifting hitting the major muscle groups (minimal/no rest between sets), 15 minutes of interval training, and then a 5-minute cooldown/stretch.

Elliptical or Crossramp trainer...burns a ton of calories!

Personally... I would say just hop on the treadmill and run.

I'm a big fan of elliptical for burning calories, fast treadmill does as well but I don't like the impact.

I can easily do 45 minutes on the elliptical but not as easily running. If you are trying to mix it up I like to do 20 - 25 minutes of the elliptical and then do a circuit of machines. Pectoral Fly, Ab Cruncher, Shoulder Press, Tricep Pull-down, Hip Abduction.

I figure i worked 25 minutes on my legs/cardio with the elliptical (And I don't really need to build strength there), and 20 - 25 on arms. Makes me feel pretty good at the end.
