has anyone ever done a bootcamp?

I know every one is different, but if you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences, that'd be great! I'm a bit nervous and wondering what I can generally expect. Thanks!

  • I'm not sure what your asking. Do you mean like a Military boot camp. I'm a Marine. I can tell you about that.

    Yes, I go once a week to my trainer's boot camp and I LOVE it! I imagine some of them are more difficult than hers, but I always get a really good workout.

    They are difficult, and they make me hate life, but afterwards I feel great :)

    Edit: Assuming you mean like a boot camp workout, not like literal boot camp.
  • as far as workout bootcamps i did one this summer and loved it!!!! if you're looking for cardio you're not going to get it since as my bootcamp trainer pointed out "what do you want me to do stand here and watch you run?" lol you'll do jumping jacks, sit ups pushups, sprints, and whatever else your trainer comes up with. i love doing it! and i defintily was in better shape when i was done and would totally do another one! :flowerforyou:
  • I did a fitness boot camp 3 times. It was somewhat "military style"
    about 30 min of running and cardio exercises. high knees- squat jumps- jumping jacks-plank exercises
    Then alternating days of legs (squats-lunges) and arms with 5-10 pound weights- push ups-sit ups, etc
    Also did activities such as pulling tires, running/jumping with sandbags.

    I'm also assuming you mean a trainer's bootcamp (not military). Yep, I'm in one now. It's hard, but I procrastinated for the longest time signing up thinking I couldn't do it. Like one person told me, "You do what you can." Just like any other fitness regime, it's about the work YOU put into it. You'll do push ups, sit ups, suicides, circuit training...and be in awesome shape by the end of it. If they don't require you to, on your own take your measurements. It's amazing what you'll be able to accomplish. And after you finish it, you'll never be afraid of what you can't accomplish again - if you can finish 8 weeks of bootcamp you can do anything!

    bootcamp, IMO, was the best and worst workout ever.
    best - great results
    worst - much pain to get there
    personally, I would have to be in good shape just to keep up...sorry, if this isn't what you're wanting to hear, but it was brutal. think i'll set a short term goal to get back to "able to" do bootcamp.

    I currently go to kickboxing classes 4-5x per week where we do a lot of situps and pushups and squats and lunges. And of course, kickboxing. I love it!

    I'm mainly worried about the running associated with bootcamp! I'm a sloooow runner.

    But from what you all are saying, it sounds really fun! Thanks for all of the responses!
  • Hey! I am helping coach a bootcamp right now. We have people from all fitness levels, from an overweight, middle-aged nacho lover (his words, not mine) to a couple that runs like crazy but has never done strength training, to a few guys that just plain kick *kitten*. So, don't be intimidated! The trainer will be able to help you find your comfort zone and them kick you right out of it :)

    We usually do a warm up, then do exercise sets/relays with short running in between.

    Take water, a towel, and have fun!
