Question for Vegetarians

Do you still eat chicken? I know this girl who has claimed to be a vegetarian for years but still eats chicken. She said as long as the chicken is burnt that it is still okay to eat. Is this a common practice or is she just full of it?

I don't eat chicken. I think that the term for people who eat chicken is called Flexatarian, or something like that. Vegetarian means no meat at all, and no fish either!0 -
I don't eat chicken or any kind of meat. I know people who have said that also, but that does not make them a vegetarian. It has nothing to do if the food is burnt or the way it is prepared.0

I have been a vegetarian my whole life until recently, I am 26 years old and I was raised in a home that did not allow meat for religious reasons. When I moved out on my own I started to eat chicken because I liked it and it was healthy and I dabble in seafood, so therefore I don't claim to be a vegetarian any longer although I was for majority of my life. A vegetarian does not eat meat, and then of course you have vegans who do not eat ANY animal by product such as milk, cheese, or eggs. What does a chicken being burnt have to do with it not being chicken? That seems a bit ridiculous.0

She would be a flexitarian not a vegetarian. Flexitarians usually eat poultry and fish0

Types of Vegetarians
There are many different kinds of vegetarians. Every person makes their own individual food choices, but most vegetarians can be divided into these main categories:
Vegans - avoid all animal products. They don't eat eggs, dairy products, or even honey. Many vegans also avoid anything made from animal products, such as leather, fur, and wool.
Fruitarians - eat only fruits, seeds, nuts, and other plant components that can be gathered without harming the plant.
Lacto-vegetarians - eat dairy products, but not eggs. They may or may not avoid non-dietary use of animal products.
Lacto-ovo - vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products. This is the most common group of vegetarians and what most people think of when someone says they're "a vegetarian."
Pesce-vegetarians - include fish in their diet.
Pollo-vegetarians - eat fowl, such as chicken and turkey, but avoid red meat and pork.
Flexitarians - mainly eat vegetarian food, but will occasionally make exceptions.
I hope this helped...Bill0 -

She said as long as the chicken is burnt that it is still okay to eat.
LOL! Oh as long as it's burnt it's okay, what the heck?? Goober0 -
No - a true vegetarian would not eat meat - from a chicken or animal. A vegetarian can eat cheese, eggs, milk etc but no meat.
A vegan is an extreme form of vegetarianism - no animal products or by products at all.
I class myself as a vegetarian but I eat fish sometimes so I am not a true vegetarian.0 -
Vegetarians don't eat any meat including seafood. I think she was confused or just pulling one over on you. A Pescetarian eats seafood but still no meat. A Vegan excludes all meat, dairy, eggs, seafood, even honey.0

I have recently heard of the term "Pescatarian" meaning people who eat fish but no other meat...Pescatarian is a more accurate term for me personally, although about 99% of the time I lead a vegetarian inspired lifestyle.
I have also heard the term "Veganish" for those who are trying to become more Vegan, but haven't quite gotten there, yet.

If someone eats chicken and no other meat, she could call herself "mostly" vegetarian. But she is not A vegetarian.
If it had eyes and a nervous system and you eat it, you are not a vegetarian.0 -

Probably not. This is not the first time I've heard this.0 -

She's full of it.
Same for the people who eat fish & call themselves veggie.
A veggie eats NO flesh red, white or fishy. Simples.0 -
Not unless chicken is a vegetable0

LOL. Can't tell if serious.
Chicken eating vegetarians are like serial killing pacifists. )0 -
Your friend is an omnivore. She could also be considered a flexitarian or a pollotarian, but definitely not a vegetarian.
Flexitarians are omnivores who predominantly eat a plant based diet but also eat animal meat occasionally.
Pollotarians eat chicken or other poultry, but not red meat.
Pescetarians eat fish or other seafood, but not red meat or poultry.
Pollo-pescetarians eat poultry and fish, or "white meat."
Vegetarians eat only plant-based diets, with or without the inclusion of dairy products or eggs, excluding ALL meat (red meat, poultry, and seafood).
Vegans eat plant-based diets and exclude all animal flesh and animal products, including milk, honey, and eggs, and may also exclude any products tested on animals, or any clothing from animals.
Vegetarians may also exclude by-products of animal slaughter, such as animal-derived rennet and gelatin. Vegans always exclude animal slaughter byproducts.0
