How come children who are the same height as adults 18+ need

I was just curious, because when I was 12, I was the same 5'4 height but then I was 120 lbs, and I remember being told that I was healthy and the most I should weight for my age, height and gender is 128 lbs.
I have not grown an inch or become a man, but I did get older, and while I'm glad I can be in the 140s and be healthy for my age, height and gender, I am just wondering why. SInce I didn't get taller, just older, how come people are allowed to weigh more?
I'm not complaining, maintaing a low weight is def difficult, and I'm glad I'm not overweight, I was just wondering if anyone know why a child who is the same height and gender as an adult has to weigh less?

I imagine it goes to the fact that we lose muscle mass as we grow older.0

huh? but muscles weighs more then fat?0

I would think puberty would play a big factor in that. As generally you gain during puberty perhaps.0

We also carry our weight differently as we get older. If I got 'high school skinny' now (and I thought I was fat then), I'd look like a drug addict. It wouldn't be pretty. I'm 6' tall, and in high school I weighed 150-155...if I weighed that now, I'd look horrific. I carry weight differently now, though. I've had kids, my hips are a little wider than they were, so I'm physically not built the same as I was then.0

I would think it has something to do with metabolism. When you are younger you have a higher metabolism and can keeper a lower weight. When older, it would be next to impossible to keep some f the "younger" weights.0
