What to do? I'm thinking I will just start to save some extra calories for after working out since I know I will want to eat a lot but does anyone else have this problem and what do you do about it? This week I have done 60 minutes of cardio every evening and then come home and overeat:( HELP!

  • I do have the same problem, so I eat my workout calories right after I work out. So, I am getting used to eating my normal daily amounts everyday and then just the extra after my workout on the days that I go.

Maybe a protein shake about 30 minutes after you work out?

For me, a low calorie protein shake before I work out actually helps me not feel like I'm starving afterwards.

I bring apples with me to the gym and/or a granola bar. A few cups of water and an apple or bar take the edge off the cravings long enough that I can maintain control. I also try to have 200 calories of complex carbs or protein 2 hours before I work out.
  • I try to work out before lunch so that I still have a lot of my calories left for the day.

On days that I know I'll be working out extra hard, I make myself a protein shake with a banana (and sometimes a tblsp of peanut butter) right after the work out. On regular days, I drink as much water as I possibly can (without feeling sick), then wait a while, then see if I'm still hungry before grabbing something to eat.

Seems my brain gets thirst and hunger confused a LOT, so I solve thirst first, then see how I feel

I always keep some sort of low cal snack waiting for me in the car when I'm done working out cuz I too feel HUNGRY and kinda weak after I work out. Usually a granola bar or something like that.

Another thing is to make sure you're fueled up before your workout.

I usually eat about a 200 calorie snack about half an hour before I workout, mixing good carbs with some fat and protein. (a handful of almonds and an apple, for example.)

When I remember to do this, I am not starving post-workout. And, I have more energy and power during my workout.:flowerforyou:

The preworkout snack helps me. I ususally have some trail mix, craisins, soynuts, yougurt covered rasisns and walnuts with bits of chocolate in it about an hour before a heavy workout. Helps me through the workout and not generally starved afterwards. :flowerforyou:

yep, the easiest way to combat this is to plan your eating ahead of time, take into account that you will be exercising that day. If you are doing cardio, eat some complex carbs about 2 hours before hand (200 to 300 calories should do), then something light within 30 minutes after.

If you're doing weight training, plan to have an extra 200 or so calories of complete protein afterwards. Within an hour or so of working out. That should not only alleviate the hunger, but also allow your muscles to redirect the protein to the muscles that need to be grown/repaired. Don't forget to have carbohydrates with that as well, as carbs with protein after anaerobic work will allow your body to use the carbs as fuel, while shunting the proteins to the muscle, otherwise the body may grab some of the protein for fuel instead of what you are trying to do with it.

I like to have an EAS Carb AdvantEdge drink:heart: - 110 cals- plus a banana- 80 cals- after a heavy workout. It fills me up and gives me good nutrition for minimal calories!
