I started this at 10.1 stone. I am in Uk so we tend to measure in stones.
There are 14 lbs in a stone.
So currently measuring at 9 stone 8lbs.
Which I work out to be 134lbs
But when I put it in an online calculator it brings it out at 137 lbs. How? What am I missing?

9 stone 8 is 134 pounds-maybe the calculator is wrong???
  • You're not missing anything. 9 stone 8lb is 134lb. 137lb is equivalent to 9 stone11lb.

Thank you! :) I thought I was going mad!
I have tried a few online calculators though and they are saying the same so either I am missing something important and the world has gone crazy!
    Does anyone know?

    9stone 8lbs is 134lb, you're right...

9.8 stone is 137lb... so it's working out what 0.8 of a stone is (11lbs), not 8lbs... Basically the calculator you're using is wrong! :)

I think it's working out 9 stone, plus .8 of a stone, which is 11lbs, 8lbs is approx .6 of a stone, it's doing it purely as a decimal rather than 9 stone plus 8lbs.

the online calculator is wrong. What it is doing is taking your measurements as 9.8 rather than 9 st. 8lbs. Ie. it is decimalising the 8lbs as 0.8 and thinking that it is actualy 11lbs. Hence it adds 11lbs to your 9 stone - (9x14) giving your figure of 137.

    imperial into decimal doesn't work!!!

stick with the 134. it's a nicer figure and also correct!!!!

I see. But there wasn't a space for the 8 lbs on any of the ones I tried. You're right! Strong coffee for me to wake me up I think! :D

It'll probably be measuring metrically - ie base 10, but as you say, stones are base 14. So, 10 and a half stone, expressed metrically, is 10.5 stone, but this is not 10 stone 5 pounds, it actually means 10 stone 7 pounds. There is a converter that can deal with the remainder issue, which most don't - it's here:

    http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/body_weight/weight_converter.htm

but you can also just add it up yourself... you've already proven you can!
