Sodium and weight loss?

I changed the information on my personal reports and have noticed my sodium intake is pretty high. I know the health benefits of eating a low sodium diet..but does anyone know what role sodium plays in weight loss? Water retention perhaps? :huh:

Sodium definitely makes you retain water. And it can lead to high blood pressure.
The ideal sodium intake is 1300mg. The recommended intake is 2500mg or less. The normal adult female eats anywhere from 2300-3500mg. The average male eats around 3300-4700mg.0 -

That would be the main one - sodium concentration is one way that your body monitors hydration levels in your body, so a higher sodium diet would likely lead to higher hydration levels, to keep it diluted. This of course has other effects on your health, but that's the one with regard to weight.0

It is definitely water retention. When I first started, my sodium was high EVERY day!! When I dont eat at home, my sodium and weight go up!! I was out of town all weekend and it slowed my progress. Add water instead of soda when you can! Challenge yourself to drink over 8 cups througout the day. You will be peeing constantly, BUT it flushes you out!
Plus, high anything isn't good for your body. Fiber, protein, iron can all be detrimental if consumed in excess.0 -

i know mixing pure sodium and water is a bad idea. it will cause an explosion.

Definetely the less salt in your diet the better for your overall health. It'll take time for your taste buds to get used to it.:happy:0
