I don't eat it that much, but when I do I usually end up putting a lot of ketchup on things.

My roommate eats it on EVERYTHING, mac n cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, Chinese food, she doesn't eat a single meal without it

I was wondering if it was unhealthy for u? or just a rare thing that's low in calories without being too unhealthy

It has a lot of sugar and sodium in it. especially when you use it a lot.

In Mogadishu, ketchup is used to sterilize the abundant and agressive water buffalo. They're everywhere, you never know when one may be watching.

As long as you log it, no big deal. (Make sure to measure it--you'd be surprised how little a tablespoon really is sometimes!) You'll have to decide for yourself if it is worth it--it is high in both sodium and sugar and has little to no nutritional value. I still use it occasionally.

really? haha...ultimately ketchup itself is not bad, it has no behavioral problems at all, but it is loaded with sodium and sugar. that said, there are now organic ketchups etc.

Check the corn syrup content because that is the worst thing to have alot of! The salt may be something u want to check also. :o)

That sounds like a great way to spend the night.

Your roommate's problem is not the ketchup, it's what she's putting it on.

Not all ketchup has it. The Hunt's brand I have in my frig right now clearly says on the label that it is HFCS free. Granted, I don't care, but the option exists.

I am a the queen of condiments. They are so so so good. I find it extremely hard to cut down - it's all sugar and salt. So bad for you!

Yeah I know, it just had to be mentioned because some do. But thanks for clarifying that!

I dig it with eggs. I limit it to a squirt, though. Not a big deal.

I used to put ketchup on things like hamburgers and hot dogs. Now when I eat a turkey burger, I put mustard instead. To me, I don't like the taste of it on the turkey. I do still eat it on the occasions that I do eat a beef burger. And hot dogs I just avoid all together now.
  • It's high-fructose corn syrup (or other sugars), sodium, and red food dye. I don't know if I'd call it bad in an absolute sense, but it certainly isn't good. The actual tomato content of ketchup is largely non-existent.

That being said, I eat it on fries, veggie burgers, and veggie hot-dogs. Yum.

Don't eat it in large quantities, on a daily basis, for every second meal, etcetera. Small quantities once in a while should be fine.

The amount you're describing sounds absurd.

    Mmmmm ketchup.

What did the big tomato say to the little tomato who was starting to fall behind?

    Ketchup!
  • There is sugar free ketchup, and I have tried it. If really takes some getting used to, it's just not the same as the real thing! I too LOVE ketchup and I am going to find an alternative soon.

I rarely eat ketchup, but when I do, it involves a burger and fries. I'm more concerned about the fries than I am the ketchup.

I think ketchup would be bad in large quantities. It sounds like your roommate might be having an affair with it. Honestly, I wouldn't make a big deal about it.

Like most sauces it's high in calories... but then again you aren't meant to use a lot of it so you shouldn't worry unless you literally coat each and every one of your fries in it. Just use it properly and you won't add much more then about 60 - 70 calories to your meal and a passable amount of sodium

I think it's not such a good idea to criticize your ketchup in a public forum. It might hear about it and do something even worse...

As to the original poster, my ketchup is very well behaved. It's the mustard that scares the heck out me...
