Evening Workout Woe

I'm have a hard time getting accustomed to exercising at night. I'm usually a morning person, but I joined a gym that has classes like Zumba and Turbokick every night at 6:30.
My problem is I can not eat before I exercise. I tried today and failed miserably. Lets just say broccoli and kickboxing don't mesh. If I don't eat before I go, I wont have dinner until around 8PM. Needless to say I am starving by then, It has kept me from going to class some nights because I try to hang in there and not eat, but then by 6 Im so starving I must eat something, then I end up not going.
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas how to work this out? My only thought so far has been to have a protein shake for dinner on the way home from work. Not sure if that will hold me all night though either.

On days I know I'll be working out late, I try to have a decent snack (an apple with peanut butter; a granola bar) at about 4:00 or 4:30. That's early enough that my stomach is settled before I work out.0

I drink Herbalife protein shakes twice a day and believe me they will keep you full.0

Protein Shake, or a fruit with string cheese. I work out at nights most of the time, sometimes I eat my dinner and wait couple of hours to do the workout. It all depends on the intensity of the workout.0

Yep, agree with the others, have a high protein snack a bit beforehand. Yoghurt, cottage cheese, nuts, hummus, turkey and cheese on a cracker?0

I have the same problem! I've been eating an apple or banana on my way home from work, then exercise and eat dinner between 7:30 and 8. It means I have to stay up until at least 10 , though, and I'm tired! LOL0

i have a snack at work about 3pm of fruit or carrot sticks and dip before i leave, then when i get home before i go to the gym i will have a protein bar or some crackers.
we do not eat dinner before 8pm usually and i find that tides me over until then.0 -
I workout at night too. I usually eat "first dinner" around 4:00 and include more carbs with my protein. An egg (or 2, depending on my calories) to keep me full and a piece (or 2) or toast with peanut butter to give me energy is my go-to meal but sometimes I mix it up.
If I'm eating for a workout, I try to give myself 2 hours to digest and I include carbs.
When I come home from the gym, I eat "second dinner" which I try to keep a little more protein heavy. It's a bit late, so I try to avoid anything that will kick off my acid reflux when I go to bed.0 -
late afternoon snack!
protein/fat/fiber will help you feel full for longer but carbs will keep your energy up for your class. i like to have a piece of fruit and string cheese an hour or so before i workout (if working out in the afternoon/evening). it's all about finding what works for you though.0 -
well i thankfully have a pretty strong stomach...today I ate a Luna bar literally 3 seconds before going out for a 4 mile run!! but is there a reason you can't just eat earlier? if that were me i'd just try to eat a protein rich snack (for long lasting energy) an hour or 2 before the class and wait to have dinner at 80

I get home from work around 5, class is at 6:30, to eat any earlier I would have to bring my dinner to work and eat before I leave.
Im going to try a double scoop protein shake today, and see how it works. I will also test out strings cheese with some almonds on another day and see how that goes too.
Thanks for the options!0 -
i find if i eat cheese before working out it gives me stomach pains0

My classes are in the evening as well.
I usually have a small snack when I get home. Cheese & crackers or some granola mixed in with some yogurt.
Not much just enough to get something in my tummy and take away the hungry feeling.0
