what can i eat at school??

Hey everyone,,, i want to lose weight but to eat at school..all we have is fast food ...we dont have whole grains at school....helppp please...

    At the very worst case you can portion your food to make it less calories.

    the problem is that i cant prepare it.... everything that i prepared would be the same as if i had bought it at school...

    I dont know how preparing your food is the same as "fast food". You cant make a sandwich? bring fruit?

    It might help to ask the school for healthier options. Start a petition and all that. You pay to go to the school and with the recent surge in eating healthy and ending the obesity epidemic the school should at least look into offering at least a salad bar. I would look to see if the fast food has somewhat healthier options as well. Maybe grilled chicken just order it without the bun and mayo or see if they have soups or vegetarian options and then bring other things like fruit or a salad of your own. I went to a community college and they even had a salad bar and veggies in cups etc. I know college food is not always healthiest but, I have a hard time picturing place with ONLY fast food and no healthier options. What do they have exactly?

    If you're eating a 1000 calorie sandwich, for example, only eat half. Simple portioning will help even if the foods are not ideal. Items with more protein will help you feel full longer, so keep that in mind as well.

    Agreed, but I really wouldnt consider that fast food. Thats just over portioning lol

    Do you live on residence at the school, is that what you mean?? If they are just serving junk food, get a bunch of students together and demand better and healthier food. Make a Wellness Committee -- you need brain food not junk food for doing well at school.

    If you have to, I would buy my own stuff and keep it in my room. Fruit, granola bars, hummus, vegetables. At least that way you are eating healthy snacks and then will be better at portioning at your main meals.

    I assume "school" means a college or university, but I could be wrong. What are the fast food options? Is there a cafeteria? If you live on campus, you can have things like cereal, sandwich materials, peanut butter, instant oatmeal, protein powder (I had a magic bullet when I lived at school).

    Even if the only options are fast food, you can prepare things like sandwiches/salads!

    well, when i said school i meant high school.....we dont pay to go to school.....we dont have food at school just in nearby markets and bakery....

    ...so how exactly does this prevent you from prepping your own food and bringing it with you?

    I really don't understand why you can't take a healthy packed lunch from home? Or if you have markets and a bakery to choose from why everything is fast food??

    So I am guessing that since there is no cafeteria in your high school ( odd) that your parents give you money for food. OR you have a job and buy your own food. So go to the market with your mom and say instead of money for food can you just buy me these things to make my own lunch. Lean turkey, salad mixes, fresh fruits and veggies wheat whole grain bread, hummus whatever you like that is healthy. that can all add up to healthy food for you to bring to school and less money your family spends on buying a lunch every day.
