NSV - Improved Running Time...

I'm training for the Disney princess 1/2 marathon at the end of February 2012....i started a running program designed by Jeff Galloway with 3 days of running per week....2 days are 30-45 min runs and 1 day is the "long" run with each week with different miles - increasing and decreasing as the weeks pass...i "started" the program on 10/18 even though i have been "moving my @ss" since last November with a challenge here on MFP...anyway, i finished week 4 yesterday and have to say I'm very very very happy with my pace progress.....
my goal is to complete the 13.1 miles in less than 3 hrs with 2 min run & 1 min walk intervals along with many stops for pictures along the way with princesses, at every mile marker along the route and in front of the castle....
i completed the Disney 1/2 in January 2010 in 3hrs and 27mins with 1 stop to pee and 1 stop for a picture at the castle...at that time i weighed around 220-225lbs or so....
anyway, i have been doing interval running forever and typically was doing 13:30-14:00 min miles over all and wasn't doing more than 3 miles at a time....
since i started "training" on 10/18 here is how my average pace has improved....
5.5 miles @4.18mph
2.5 miles@4.29mph
4.04 miles @5.05mph
5.51 miles @4.08mph
3.09 miles @4.21mph
3.5 miles @4.12mph
HERE'S WHERE I TAKE A TURN FOR THE BETTER!!!!!!
3.58miiles @4.57mph
5miles @ 5mph
5.03 miles @4.5mph
3.65miles @4.98mph
3.09miles @5.3mph
3.51miles @5.27mph
so now instead of shooting for a 13:74 min mile I'm thinking of readjusting my goal and continuing to PUSH on and better my time to a 12 min mile or better....I'm really interested to see if each week i can get "faster" than the week before....i love this feeling of SUCCESS without it having to be based on weight and/or the stupid scale...
PS - right now I'm 172ish and I'm hoping by February I'm very close to goal and somewhere deep into the 150s

I'm sure you can do a sub 3 hr half-marathon. I can never discipline myself to follow these training programs religiously, but you certainly have the determination it takes. You make it sound very tempting, Perhaps I should try this myself.0

YEAH! great job! I say GO FOR IT!
I also joined a local running group that is based on the Galloway philosophy. I have improved from "just" walking at 20 min miles (3 mph) up to intervals of 3 min Run, 1 min Walk, with a recent personal best of 12:30, or juuuuust shy of that magic 5 mph mark! My group is on break for the Holidays, so my goal for this winter is to keep my distance low while I build up intensity and increase my intervals all the way up to 9:1 !!! When we resume in January, I am also going to train for a Half-Marathon.
Sounds like we are in a similar situation. I'd like to send you a friend request.0 -
