Eating calories

I wanted to know if you eat your Exercise calories before or after you actually do the Exercise? I know this seems odd but I have seen a lot of people saying they will burn off this or that with a good workout. The reason I ask is because I do all of my daily burn before 5pm and am usually eating dinner by 7pm does this mean I am not burning off my dinner until the very next day?

normally i log my exercise before i do it, then eat my "exercise calories" throughout the day, exercise either in the afternoon or evening and call it good. i used to just log my exercise when i did it, but would end up with hundreds of calories to eat before bed and i wouldnt be able to sleep well. personal choice.0

I do the exercise first, because I have a habit of wimping out :P0

I regularly work out either first thing in the morning or over my lunch break. When I work out first thing in the morning, I usually have not had more than a glass of water or maybe a piece of fruit. If you're burning the calories before eating, then you are burning calories you have already eaten. But you also get your metabolism working, so you'll burn more calories than you would have if you had not worked out.
Ultimately, if you work out, its only good. As long as you're working out, that's the most important thing.0 -
If ya haven't done the exercise, then how do you have the calories to eat? Too many things can come up if you eat them beforehand. Car breaks down, have to work late, get sick, whatever. I don't eat what I don't have. However, if I did have to exercise late at night, then I admit it would be another matter. I can understand not wanting to eat 600 or so calories right before going to bed.:yawn:0

I do the exercise first, then I log how many calories I've burned. I really didn't know how many in total, now with the HRM. I don't have to second guess myself now.

i think thats part of why it works for me to pre-log it. I'm a stay at home mom pretty much always at home with some time to kill0 -
It doesn't matter whether you eat it before or after. What counts is the daily (and actually more accurately the weekly) intake vs what you burn. Your body will create reserve anytime you eat and use it anytime you exercise, whatever order that is.
It is recommended though not to eat for 30 minutes after your workout. This is simply because your body is still consuming a lot of energy after you stop your workout and it is a good idea to force it to use reserves (ie our excess fat). Then eat a reasonable meal.
My main meal is always in the evening, yet I am losing just fine... I do avoid stuffing myself at night though, mostly for sleep reasons. To my mind, evening is always best with protein and fibers (easier to digest) rather than heavy fats and lots of starchy food.0
