I really am needing some help right now... I think I am cursed to stay at 166... I started my weight loss journey in Feb at 177. Lost a few pounds and was then stuck at 166 in may.. in august I sprained my knee and ankle so didn't work out until the end of September... I gained 3 pounds but loss them quick and yet again my weight has stalled at 166... I've tried everything.. I'm running out of ideas!

Have you tried doing a completely whole-food diet? Cut out all processed foods and sugars. (90% of the time- we all need a little indulgence periodically!) Eat tons of veggies and meats, and healthy fats/oils. ANd of course LOTS of water.

go 3 days no meat...get your protein from eggs, PB...then go 3 days no carbs..except for fruits and veggies. Still get in your calories...but without those things. It will shock your body.

Do you eat back your exercise calories? And are you sure the number of calories you burned is correct--are you using a HRM?
  • On your profile it says that your current weight is 162? Also being able to review your food diary would help us understand your eating habits more so we can help you.

What are you doing for exercise? Is it the same thing you've been doing?
Intervals can help jump start that metabolism.
  • I took a look at your diary for the last week and it seems you're getting too much protein and fat. If I were you, I would cut back on those. It is very important to have a healthy balance of macronutrients.

In the fitness community, there is hype about over-consuming protein. Protein powders are everywhere and they have ads with ripped people who we, or at least I, want to look like. But the thing is, too much protein can and will lead to being overweight. The only people who should up their protein intake significantly are those who are looking for serious gains in muscle or those who exercise at a high intensity consistenty. Even then, upping your carbs would probably better than upping your protein. Try following the MFP suggestions for protein, fat, and carbs for a little bit and see how that works for you. Getting below 166 may all be a matter of a few adjustments. :) Hang in there chica, don't get too discouraged.

I, too, took a look at your diary. You're consistently over on protein because your macro is set at only 15%. have you switched your macros up? Mine are set at 25% fat (though it usually sits around 30), 45% carbs and 30% protein. I have a hard time hitting my protein most days. But I'm in the same boat as you - my scale doesn't want to move either so what do I know?

When was your last 2k calorie day?
Maybe up cals for 2 weeks!
  • there are honestly million of diet tips and tricks out there but nothing will last... what you need is a LIFESTYLE change. that is the only thing that will ensure that the weight will go away and stay off. To lose the pounds it is simple, CALORIE DECREASE. no matter if you are eating twinkies or vegetables, the number of calories is what determines your weight. 1 pound= 3500 calories... therefore if you eat an EXTRA 100 cal/ day for a little longer than month, you will put on one pound. This also works in the reverse effect in the sense that if you eat 3500 calories LESS over a span of time, you will lose that weight. Weight is simply a number game.

I really wish that were true! Since I started onMFP I have probably reduced my calories by 1500 day. I've lost only 13 lbs since Jan. I used to eat lunch out at work every day. I'm not a big fan of cooking so we would eat out most nights too. When I compare the old me to the new me, by your calculations I should be a size zero by now! I'd have to be miscalculating my calories by thousands to result in such a small loss over almost a year. So for me calories in vs calories out just isn't working

The fat around your midsection holds a lot of calories.
    3500 calories per pound.
Lean muscle holds appx 2550 calories per pound.

When a body goes into starvation mode, done by not eating at all or eating below BMR, the body will begin to retain its best source of energy and use up muscle tissue first.
So the reason you are still overweight after dropping below 1500 calories or 1200 calories or 1000 calories is because your body is telling you to screw off!
Its going to continue eating muscle and dropping your LBM until you have no muscle at all!

The trick to fixing this is to eat above BMR and eat more when you work out!
    Its that simple!
    or
You guys can keep moaning about not loosing any weight and watching your LBM wither away while you eat a lettuce sandwich on whole grain bread with no mayo because you dont know what you are doing.

The people who are loosing the weight and keeping it off are eating the proper calories for their body mass. 1600-2200 calories if you are over 5'2".
They are eating several times a day like 5-6 times.
They arent going to bed hungry because they know that their body will eat muscle while sleeping so they eat 1-2 hours before bed.
The goal is lower fat and higher lean body mass?
    Right?
    EAT FOR GODS SAKE!!!!!
    =D

I eat a lot I think. Usually around 1800 at least. Anyways.... if you've trued everything possible including upping food intake I'd see your doctor. Tell them and see if they suggest some blood work. I cried tears of joy when I found out I have hypothyroidism. Seriously. Compared to how hard I was working before and how obsessive I was, this feels like cake. I drove myself crazy too. It's worth considering if you're at your wits end and have no methods left to try.

Dan I agree with you too but I'm not one of those people that eat less than 1000 calories a day and neither is Amy. I net 1600 a day which is at least 1500 less a day than I used to eat. I eat every couple of hours and try to get a good protein source with every meal. I work out every day before going to work but don't have a HRM so it's entirely possible I'm not eating enough back.

I also want to say that I think it's pretty presumptuous of you to assume otherwise! That we eat lettuce sandwiches because we don't know what we're doing.
