Hi, I just joined tonight and could really use support. I am not just here cuz I am not a size 5 and want to look good. I am here because I want to survive. I am ready to live! I used to be very healthy, until I had my second child and got put on bedrest. I didn't lose the weight from that. Dido for children number 3 and 4. Now, here I sit at 248 lbs, have diabetes, high cholesterol and who knows what else. My children need me to survive. I want to show them that thier health is the most important thing they can do for themselves. So, in the meantime, I need some support from anyone willing to give it to me through this journey. Thanks, Melissa

You can do this. Plan things out and make it a family affair. I am not sure how old your kids are but you can walk togethor, throw a ball or frisbee anything to move. I personally try to make healthy meals for my whole family not just me.

You will do great!! There is alot of people here to support you in this journey we are all on.:flowerforyou:

Greetings Melissa! You can get back to healthy and be there for your children...this is a great place to meal plan with the food diary and there's great support here...don't know how much you know about nutrition but here's a good website for that info as well: www.mypyramid.gov.

    Take care,

This is a great site for weight loss tools (the food log has helped he so much), support, information, and motivation! Make use of it!

I know how having babies can put the weight on fast, and it will take time to come off, but it's very possible. You can do it!

This is the beginning of your new life!
  • Hi Melissa!

I haven't been here long either, but so far I have found this site sooooo helpful and motivational...

I'm quite a fan and have already been doing a great job by monitoring my calories and exercise through these online tools, and asking questions as well.. There are definitely some wonderful people on here, and I'm sure this will turn out to be one big support system!!!

Good luck with everything and I agree that health is most important!! You can do it!

You're obviously willing to start paying attention to what you eat and that's the first step. You're on the way to becoming healthy and fit. Congratulations, Melissa.

Take a deep breath, be kind to yourself and settle in. It's a lifetime commitment and it takes time to stop the momentum of unhealthy habits and build new ones. But if you can just put one foot in front of the other and move forward a little bit every day, it won't seem so daunting.

Oh yeah...and take what you like from this site and leave the rest. Including the above!

Welcome:flowerforyou: You've come to the right place for support. I am diabetic and since I started this diet my sugars are running about 97 where before I started eating healthy they were all over the place. I only take a pill for now, and I believe there is a chance that I may have to cut my medication down . And I pray as I loose more and keep eating the right foods I can someday not have diabetes. :smile:Good Luck to you and Congratulations on your precious babies.:flowerforyou: I just wanted to add something more about diabetes.......I had to go to a kidney specialist last month still waiting for the test results......but the doctor said that diabetes can cause heart failure. I know a lady only 10 years older then me , that she lost both kidneys, had a leg amputated, and has had heart surgery, and now on dialysis. Scary isn't it?
  • Welcome, I can understand the fear of not being there for your children. My doctor has told me that I have been borderline on diabetes and my blood pressure that has always been really good has been periodically shooting up. I am not ready to leave this life yet. I have so much to do. So I decided it was time to do something. I have been on many diets and all have failed. I am watching my calorie intake and I have used the tools here and they are great. In order to be where I need to be, my calories are at 1200 a day. At this time I have lost 14 pounds and this week I am dropping a pound a day. My body is adjusting to the change and it is wonderful. I didn't realize how much I was actually eating and all the junk I was putting into my body was terrible. Being on this site and logging everything I eat and drink helps so much. This is my accountability partner. There is a lot of support here. There is a site discoveryhealth@discoverymail.com I use this for health info and the meals you can make for you and your family are wonderful. It is a life change and you can teach your family good eating habits without making everyone miserable. I measured everything at first and now I can grab something to eat and know my serving size and approximate calorie. I had to retrain myself. It works. I am really glad you are here.
