Fun and games with BodyMedia Fit

I thought this was funny, so I'm sharing just 'cause!

I wear a BodyMedia Fit band. It's just a body bug, one of several brands available. It measures M.E.T. by some electrical-conductance of the skin voodoo. I like it. And I usually wear it on my arm (which is where you're supposed to wear it). But yesterday, I was feeling vain and self-conscious. I wore a short sleeve **** and didn't want anyone to see the fat-lady wearing some calorie-counting thingy on her arm. I remembered someone telling me that you can wear it on your ankle too, so that's where I put it.

Lo and behold... according to my BodyMedia band, I was doing "vigorous exercise" all day long! Funny, 'cause here I thought I was sitting on my butt at the computer for most of the day. My best guess is, I fidget. I wiggle my leg, tap it, etc... when I'm thinking or writing. I hardly count that as 'vigorous" but apparently the band did.

Moral of the story: Don't wear it on your ankle

    I think I read that they also have an accelerometer on them.

    When you wear the bugg on your arm, can you see it poke up under your shirt? Is it well-concealed under your shirt?

    I wear mine inside my bra when i want it concealed :) The calorie count is almost identical, maybe a little less.

    I've never heard about wearing it inside a bra! Interesting...I've always been interested in one but I would not be able to wear one on my arm at work.

    Depends on the sleeves of your shirt. Mine is always covered in a typical tshirt. I see some of the bugg as the sleeves go to "babydoll" or "cap".

    Yup this. Sleeves that hit mid-upper arm cover it just fine, though observant people can still see the bump covered by the sleeve. Cap sleeves don't cover it. The shirt I wore yesterday was not exactly cap, but had shorter sleeves than even the average short sleeve shirt. It's my 'feel skinny' shirt >.> I needed a self-esteem boost yesterday.

    OH! I think I got it :D You must take it out of the strap that holds it on your arm and just put the little device in the band of your bra? I was trying to figure out how you wrapped the strap around... well... yah... anyway. Got it.

    You've got the idea....I actually put it in the left cup so that it is even with where it would be placed if on your arm...hope that makes sense.

    Has anyone had arm pain while wearing it at night? I've only had it for 1 week but every time i wear it at night i have a lot of pain in my arm in the morning. I tried loosening it but if it's too loose it keeps sliding and beeping. And i wore it on the right arm last night because i tend to sleep on my left side, and i woke up in the middle of the night with soreness on my arm so i had to take it off.... Have you guys had that happen?

    Yes. I don't wear it at night for exactly this reason.

    I don't get pain, but I have on 2 occasions over the past month noticed "blisters" on my arm. The kind of water bubble you would get after a burn. Sometimes I feel a small tingle - electrical shock type feeling, and think that is what cause the blister. I called them, and they told me that it was an "allergic" reaction, which makes no sense, otherwise, I would have 2 - one from each sensor. They said they would refer it to a specialist, but I haven't heard back... anyone else have this type of reaction?

    Yes... I have. Who's "they"? Allergic reaction is B.S. in my opinion :P I think they are caused by the metal sticking to the skin and nothing more. The metal will stick when wet and it gets wet by sweat and the band holds it tight against the arm... so if it's sticking tightly, then when you bump it or move it, you peel the outer-layer of skin partly off.

    I've found the solution is to 1) move it to a new place on your arm ever so often, and 2) remove it slowly from your arm instead of just ripping it off as I am prone to do.

    It hasn't actually pulled off the skin... I actually have a blister. I took a picture of if with my phone - just in case they ask.. I'll see if I can post it.
